Update for Morgan

Please sit down before you read this.

Sunday is a day off for me, so I get to sleep a little later than usual.
I was just coming to grips with waking up when my cell phone rang.
It was Danielle, from Tabby’s Place.
It took a few repeats before I could grasp her words. It appeared Morgan had thrown another blood clot. His rear legs were cold, and he was in some pain.

It seemed clear this was the event we had been dreading, but knew would come eventually: he had another saddle thrombus.
Our vet had prescribed pain meds that were administered immediately, alleviating his discomfort until she could arrive.
We all knew it would be time to let him go.

I rushed to Tabby’s Place to find Morgan lying calmly on the exam table, with some gentle heat support to be sure he maintained his body temperature.

It was so hard to see him like that.
He had been such a strong, vital force at Tabby’s Place.
And now he was debilitated, facing his last moments on Earth.

No more gallivanting through the Lobby.
No more little children throwing their arms around his neck before the parents could warn them about approaching unknown cats (they didn’t know that Morgan had never met a creature he didn’t love).
No more sleeping peacefully on the Lobby couch, next to a dozing volunteer. No more looking into those incredible eyes that looked into your soul. And loved you despite what he saw.

Morgan went very peacefully and gently. He was one of the most loved cats at Tabby’s Place, and this was reflected in the employees and volunteers who surrounded him to wish him Godspeed.

We know Death is coming for each of us.
I know I haven’t lived with the same love, openness and trust as Morgan.
But I hope that I can meet it with the same dignity and courage he showed.

No being on this planet will be missed more than Morgan.

As we grieve, we are extremely grateful to you for all the kindness you’ve shown Morgan. When the shock subsides, we hope you will open your heart to another Tabby’s Place cat. Following Morgan’s passing, we have transferred your monthly sponsorship to Morgan’s longtime neighbor Boots. Like Morgan, Boots has heart disease and lives in the Lobby of Tabby’s Place. You can meet Boots here, and you can catch up on his past updates here. Unless we hear otherwise from you, you will receive updates on Boots each month going forward.

However, you may do one of the following:

  • Choose to have your sponsorship transferred to support another Special Needs cat of your choice.
You can see all of our Special Needs cats here.
If you wish to do this, please contact us by email and let us know your wishes.
  • You may choose to discontinue your monthly sponsorship. To do so, please contact us at 908-237-5300 with your request.

Thank you for loving Morgan so generously.
