Update for Morgan

Update for Morgan

Let me start by apologizing for the lateness in this update. I was out of town for a few days, but that’s really no excuse.
Let me also say up front that Morgan is doing fine.
With that out of the way, on to the update.

This month, two events reminded me of the fragility of Morgan’s heart condition.

The first was Morgan’s regular ultrasound checkup.
there was no change in his condition, but upon viewing his heart, the ultrasonographer remarked, “Wow.”
She is, frankly, amazed that a cat with heart this bad is alive, much less thriving.
I had heard this before, but this time it really hit home.

The second event was more impactful.
We lost Sylvia, who came to us with the same condition and symptoms as Morgan.
She, also, was not expected to survive after the blood clot, but thrived for three years.

Unfortunately, she threw another blood clot last week, and this time we had to let her go.
This is, sadly, the virtually inevitable outcome for any cat that throws a blood clot.

Looking at Morgan, it’s hard to imagine him any other way than full of life.
But, of course, this is our typical reaction to death: we know it’s inevitable, but somehow we seem to not really believe it’s coming.

It’s something I’ve struggled with for a long time and I believe one of the reasons I started Tabby’s Place is to learn something about death.

I would love to tell you that I have a great truth to reveal to you about death.
But that would be a lie.
I do think I am starting to believe it’s coming for all of us.
Meanwhile, I am going to love Morgan and cherish his presence here.

I am going to leave you with a quote from Woody Allen about death:

“I’m not afraid of death; I just don’t want to be there when it happens.”
