Greetings to Lester’s sponsors,
Happy October to you!
Now that Hurricane Joaquin is history after heading in the opposite direction, it is most certainly a happy October at Tabby’s Place. The grey and blustery early days of this month brought a three-day Nor’easter that pounded the New Jersey coast. Still, we breathed a sigh of relief once the hurricane no longer had New Jersey as its target. Gratefully, Lester never had a worry.
This month, I was given the opportunity to write about a wonderful cat that I have grown to love over the past few years. Yes, this month I am backup writer for Lester and could not be more thrilled.
You see, I have been regularly visiting the FIV suite at Tabby’s Place for the past several years, and I have become attached to all its inhabitants — Lester especially, as you are most definitely in his house as a guest when you enter the FIV suite.
It was no different on a recent visit in early October. Entering the suite, there was Lester, all tucked and comfortable having a rest, but also completely observant of the situation. This was typical Lester, completely in control and confident. It was like he knew I was there especially for him this particular day, as his head picked up and he began to check me out.
“Hello, Lester,” I said out of respect. “It’s good to see you. How have you been?” He played his part well, not appearing to be too happy to see me, but you knew he was ecstatic to have the company. I played it cool and sat down next to him. I was almost immediately embraced by Charlie, who threw himself on my lap and demanded my attention. Lester took this all in, and as king of the hill, took it rather well. Charlie is a sweetheart and craves attention, which I did my best to accommodate, but I was determined to get Lester’s attention.
So, out came the wand toy. It looks like an exotic snake at first glance. Lester simply cannot resist the temptation to capture and crunch this elusive “creature.” And on this blustery fall day, he did not disappoint. Soon he was fully awake, taking swings and swipes at the snake, letting the snake know who was the predator and who was prey.
Unfortunately, as Lester gave up his warm and cozy resting place, it was immediately taken by Newman. Suite FIV is a competitive suite.
Lester continued his hunting, catching, and munching on the snake toy until he finally had enough. He was done and that was that. You see, it’s all on Lester’s terms, and that is clearly understood by all who know and love him.
At this point, he decided to mountain climb, and proceeded to move up to the top of the ramp and out to the solarium for some fresh air. On this cool, overcast day, he was the only one outside. Lester was cool, confident, and still in charge, and he’d made my day better for being with him. Leaving Tabby’s Place that day, the clouds started to break up and the sun began to peek through.
On the medical front, it’s been a blissfully stable month for our big-eyed boy. Lester’s been on his best behavior (no Pyewacket-pummeling), and he’s enjoyed the best health (no news of any kind).
Thank you, Lester fans, for your continued support of a great cat and a wonderful place. We could not do it without you.
