Update for Kitten Fund

Punxsatawney Phil has promised us an early spring, kitten sponsors! I’m not sure that I trust Phil in that assessment. But here at Tabby’s Place, we are in a never-ending spring of kitten blossoming joy!

The first bit of very exciting news is that River and Firefly were adopted together! This pair had a tough time of it in their first year. They were plagued by both terrible shyness and digestive issues, and had trouble gaining weight early on. But they’re both doing much better and have grown into sweet (if still nervous) young cats and have gone off to their forever home together. If my pair of litter mates are any indication, shy River will be happy to have his braver brother at his side as they grow up.

Catsup also went home this month! Her time in the Community Room really brought her out of her shell, and she’s become a sassy, chatty little cat who will surely bring joy to her new family.

We’re hoping that the Community Room will work similar magic on Hunts, who just moved in. Hunts is a beautiful young fella who is just persistently and painfully shy. I’ve been told that, after just a few days, he’s let some volunteers pet him and is hanging out with new roommate Puzzle, so I’m hopeful that Hunts will feel safe to release his charms onto the world very soon.

Firestone (pictured at left) and Michelin remain in the Kitten Room, where poor Michelin has been fighting a persistent case of conjunctivitis in her left eye. All the kittens passed it around, but poor Michelin just can’t seem to shake it. The brother and sister pair still hiss and worry if you come near, but love to play and be petted once you get past their initial fear.

And then there’s Jude (pictured above). Our newest little miracle has gotten so big, it’s hard to believe! Jude is now in the forever foster care of our incredible Director of Volunteers, Karina. He gave everyone a scare a few weeks ago when he started having serious seizures. Jude has since had a few visits with a neurologist and is on anti-seizure medication. He’s over a week seizure free as of this writing! An MRI showed that Jude’s case of hydrocephalus is very rare, which means that the normal treatment (placing a shunt to relieve fluid from the brain) may not benefit him. But, for now, he’s growing big and strong and sassy. His once-wobbly head has gotten much more steady, and he is absolutely fearless, and more than willing to tell you off if you stop him from exploring. You can read more about Jude — and sponsor him! — here.

If the groundhog has it right, kitten season is right around the corner. And when the little ones start to pull in, we’ll be ready! In the meantime, the staff and volunteers at Tabby’s Place, with your generous help, are hard at work ensuring our current class of little ones thrive.
