Dear Friends,
I cannot believe we are halfway through August, and the summer is coming to an end. How was your summer? Mine was action-packed, and I count my blessings every day to have you as my sponsor. My life at Tabby’s Place is filled with so much happiness and love, thanks to your generosity. If you are planning a trip to visit me at Tabby’s Place, I have moved to a new suite, B.
With the herd of kittens coming out of volunteer foster care, Tabby’s Place needed a suite for them, so the kitten brigade moved into the former skin allergy suite. I did not even need to send you a change of address card! My current roomies Lost, Lucy, and Xena only had to move over one suite, so packing was easy! I have already found comfy spots either on a cat bed perched on a crate or on a raised floor cot. Our new roomies are Carrot, Alex, and Sketch. We even have access to a protected outdoor solarium, which faces the beautiful gardens.
When the weather cools down, my correspondent wants to take me to the solarium (since I don’t yet know how to negotiate the tube that connects the suite to the solarium, plus I have not walked the ramp into the solarium). Carrying me is a great way to get there (wink, wink)—lots of extra kisses from my correspondent!
The event team just finished their second event of the summer, met many people, and shared Tabby’s Place’s mission and stories with them. I watched my correspondent inventory and pack the event boxes, with the supervision of the lobby cats, especially Hips – he climbs into the boxes! Going to community events is a great way to introduce Tabby’s Place, and us cats, as well as recruit new volunteers. Information about Quinn’s Corner is also being shared, and people are so excited to visit the sanctuary and Quinn’s Corner.
My correspondent gives guided tours to Tabby’s Place visitors, and I noticed that she has been so busy the past few weeks. She continues to stop by Suite B with visitors and introduces them to the cats in the NEW hypoallergenic suite. Yesterday a mom and her young daughter came to visit. They were very sad because their 16-year-old cat had just gotten his angel wings. My correspondent explained to her that their cat now has angel wings, and flew to heaven to watch over the family, and is smiling right now as they visit the Tabby’s Place cats.
My correspondent introduced the little girl to me, and she hand-fed me treats. I gently took one treat at a time, and looked right into her eyes and could see her smiling inside. I have never experienced such a beautiful moment, and helping a little girl turn sadness into happiness was something I will remember forever. My only wish was that you were there with me! My story has an even happier ending! The little girl’s mom signed her up for the “Paws to Read” program, and she was thrilled to look forward to reading to me on her next visit!
Tabby’s Place continues to buzz with lots of wonderful activities. I just learned about the Linda Fund Matching Challenge. If you don’t recall, our Linda Fund campaign raises money for emergency and specialty veterinary care for the cats of Tabby’s Place. The spokescat for the fund is pretty Prescott. We have become friends through the suite window, as she is a lobby cat.
Please share this challenge with your cat-loving friends! A group of generous donors will match each donation, dollar-for-dollar—amazing!
In other news, we recently hit a milestone in Tabby’s Place history! We embraced our 4000th cat, Serendipity, a sweet Siamese mix who gave birth to 5 healthy male kittens in the lap of one of our own staff members. Read all about it in Angela’s blog: Dippity!
I have been having a flare-up of my skin sensitivities, as is not uncommon for cats with skin allergies. I am in the best place possible because our stellar medical team is doing its best to bring me relief. Extra love is also helping me from staff and volunteers, and of course my correspondent. Hopefully, next month’s Health Update will be short again.
Savor the last days of summer. I’m sending you bunches of Josie kisses, filled with love and sunshine.
Love,
Josie
(With help from your correspondent, Ilene)
