Update for Colleen

Dear supporters of Colleen,

I’m happy to report that May was a quieter month for Colleen. But, she’s not totally out of the woods yet. That’s the story of her life, it seems; Colleen has her ups and downs just about every month. This time, she had another flare-up of dental inflammation. Our vet team treated this with antibiotics — as you’ll recall, Colleen’s cardiac disease makes her a poor candidate for surgery at this point.

Since Colleen requires antibiotics, and antibiotics can muddle with the gastrointestinal tract, the good folks at Tabby’s Place are also treating Col with probiotics. It’s our hope that this will prevent her usual bout of diarrhea.

Despite these recurrent medical issues, Colleen remains as sweet as ever. Just recently, during one of my visits, I discovered her lounging near the window in the Community Room. Col, of course, wanted to be in the window, basking in the sunshine. So I hoisted her up on the windowsill, and there she posed for the camera, happy and content.

Yes, our Colleen is a sun worshipper. She likes to bask in the sun and eat. No sooner did she settle herself in the sun, than one of the volunteers arrived with a plate of tasty morsels. Colleen looked at me and I looked at her. What she wanted was clear. It was half past twelve — lunch time — so I hoisted her onto the table and she began to gobble down her food. Happy again.

Cats are just like people. Good food and good weather, and we are happy!

Thanks, as always, for your continued generous support. Enjoy these beginning days of summer.
