There’s a wonderful vintage Beatles song called I’ll Follow the Sun, and whenever I see Colleen, I often hear it run through my head: Colleen is a sun-lover.
As you know, Colleen is staked out in the boss’ office so she can eat a special diet to control her now-official diagnosis of diabetes. The diet has been a huge success – so much so that she has been taken off insulin. Yup, the diet controls her blood glucose levels! And even though Col’s “pad” in Jonathan’s office is all comfy and cozy, the girl needs her sun. Colleen seems to be on a constant journey to find the sun’s rays.
Luckily, everyone at Tabby’s Place understands Colleen’s dilemma. She has free reign of the place, and believe me, that is no easy feat to arrange. Wherever Colleen goes, because of her diet restrictions, the food for the other cats must be moved out of Colleen’s reach. When Colleen decides she would like to saunter through the Community Room, all the bowls have to moved to the top of the large table. No snacking for Colleen from the forbidden cat treats here!
That’s what happened the other day. Imagine a girl on the beach, feeling the warm delicious sun shooting down on her. That was Colleen! That blue rug was like her beach towel. Colleen was that girl – she was sunbathing, all stretched out, and loving it!
I walked over at the exact moment when the sun had disappeared. I picked Colleen up and was amazed to discover that her fur was super warm.
A cat’s wants are simple. All she asks is the sun and some good food and some love from the people around her to be happy. She got all those things that day.
“You know, Colleen,” I said to her, “There’s this Beatles’ song–I’ll Follow the Sun–that always reminds me of you. I think you would just love this song.”
Keep your fingers crossed that the warm weather arrives soon. Oh, and let’s keep hoping for some more sunny days!
Colleen and I both thank you for your continued generous support.
