Update for Colleen

Dear Supporters of Colleen,

As usual, the staff at Tabby’s Place has continued to face challenges when it comes to caring for our sweet girl.

Although there is nothing major to report medically this month — yeah! — for a moment or two, the staff did notice that there were red spots on Colleen’s ears and legs, and they were not there as part of some elaborate pre-Halloween costume scheme. Oh, no…but these tiny red lesions also were not signs that Colleen had contracted ringworm again. So, yippee, our girl did not have that dreaded condition to worry about.

However, Colleen’s tendency to paw at her face increased this month. She does this due to a condition called trigeminal nerve disease, which is not well understood. Pain medication, so far, has been ineffective, and the staff at Tabby’s Place is now considering treating Colleen with medication given to humans with the same condition.

But notwithstanding her medical news, Colleen is continuing to enjoy her time in the sun. In the Community Room, she has staked out her spot on the bench near the window. The weather has been beautiful and sunny this autumn, and Colleen has enjoyed all those sunny rays floating in. This is the case even though she’s not been alone.

Now, truthfully, I’ve been away these past few weeks in Scandinavia. But Tabby’s Place’s Development Director, Angela, reports that the kittens who also inhabit the Community Room may be small, but they’re no fools. It didn’t take two of the kittens, Sinatra and Conrad, long to spot Colleen in the prime position in the room and to mosey on up to her on the bench.

But Colleen doesn’t mind sharing her space with the youngsters. She’s very egalitarian when it comes to the Community Room. She’s not at all like Bonnie and Peachy, who would rather be left alone.

Colleen and I both thank you for your continued generosity. Enjoy this lovely fall/summer weather we’ve been having.
