Update for Colleen

Dear Supporters of Colleen,

I am beginning to realize that it will never be dull around Colleen.

“Why? What happened?” you ask. In the first place, I think I know why Colleen was trying to escape from her suite last month. Yes, I dared use the word–escape. It seems that there was a bit of unrest in Adoption Room 1. How do I know this? The process of deduction. A certain kitty by the name of Cecille–otherwise known as the “wild girl,” was moved to Suite C because the so-called “vibe” in AR1 was becoming a bit untenable. Rumor has it that whenever Colleen was being given her meds, Cecille insisted on helping. Needless to say, Colleen and Ms. Cecille were not the best of friends. I think Colleen had had enough, and perhaps, (this is my theory) Colleen’s attempted escape sent a message that one of them needed another place to hang. No shame in that. After all, every cat can’t be expected to get along with every other cat.

In all honesty, the usually overly tolerant Colleen was not feeling well. When I visited her, she sounded terrible–all congested, like she had a bad cold. She was sneezing up a storm. She was also pawing the left side of her face. When the good people at Tabby’s Place took a closer look, they noticed that the left side of her muzzle was inflamed. Colleen was started on a couple of medications to help with the inflammation. In addition, she was given an antibiotic.

Luckily, she responded well to the treatment, and all the anti-inflammatory meds were stopped after a short time. Last week, the antibiotics were stopped as well.

The poor kid. No one likes to take medicine. Unfortunately, according to Karin, Colleen was being treated with a liquid suspension that was chicken flavored, which smelled like vomit. Now, I didn’t smell anything when I came to visit, but supposedly, to be more exact, that med actually smelled like pizza vomit. And Colleen didn’t want to swallow it. In fact, she was so insistent on not swallowing it, that after she was given her meds, she did everything she could to spit it up. But she did manage to keep enough of the “good stuff” down to do its job, and she completely recovered from the facial inflammation.

So now we are happy to report that Colleen is her old self once again. There are few cats that are more enjoyable to visit. As soon as you arrive in the suite, a giant smile breaks out over her face. She jumps down from wherever she is and scoots over for some attention. Colleen loves to be petted. The purring begins almost immediately.

Now I will admit that she has a nasty habit of snacking halfway through any session we have together, but I don’t hold that against her. After all, the kid likes to eat.

Thanks, as always, for your generous support of our girl. Enjoy the summery weather while it lasts.
