Update for Colleen

Dear Colleen Supporters,

I have this vague memory that several months ago, either when I had just taken over the writing of Colleen’s updates or shortly thereafter, Colleen tried a great escape from her suite. I wondered at that time if she wasn’t just one of those cats who needed more space, who just needed to stretch her paws a bit.

Well, Colleen’s dreams have come true!

Because of some good news adoptions this past month and some shifting of roommates among the kitties, Colleen has been given prime quarters to rest her furry head in the lobby. And for a kitty, especially for a sweet and lovable girl like Colleen who craves attention, this is the purrfect place!

Almost everyone who visits Tabby’s Place has to pass through the lobby. So everyone will have the opportunity to extend a pet to our dear Colleen and pay attention to her, which she will love. Every single time I have visited Colleen in the past (when she was still in her suite) even if I was interrupting her from a deep snooze, she still would leave her comfy and cozy spot and saunter over, jump up to my chair, because she wanted to be with someone. She wanted someone to hold her and pet her and whisper all the sweet nothings we whisper to our kitties when we care about them. Now Colleen will have even more visitors to snuggle with.

So, yes, this is an excellent move for Colleen!

I expect to see Colleen this Thursday and again this Friday and I can’t wait to spot the broad smile on her beautiful face.

Now, there is also a practical side to this move. You may remember concerns in past months that one of the cats in Colleen’s previous suite was urinating too much. Well, after careful monitoring, we realized it was Colleen, who it seems had developed diabetes as a result of the steroids she had been taking. We hoped that the diabetes was a temporary condition, so we only started Colleen on small daily doses of insulin. Unfortunately, the diabetes has stuck around, and we’ve needed to increase her daily insulin dosage a bit.

In addition, Colleen is still exhibiting those small strange tics (such as pawing at her face), so we took her to a neurological specialist. In running bloodwork for her visit, we discovered she was also a bit anemic, so we gave her an iron injection. Then we noticed Colleen walked a little off balance.

There are still issues to be resolved and questions we don’t yet know the answers to, but now that Colleen is in the lobby, we will be able to more closely monitor her behavior and take good care of our girl.

We thank you, as always, for your continued generosity.
