Update for Colleen

Dear supporters of Colleen,

For months and months you’ve heard me rant on and on about Colleen and her ongoing battle with the kittens. It’s difficult to be an aging, well, hum, slightly older cat and have to share your space with tiny critters who sometimes are not so tiny and who often have no understanding of how to “share” space. They literally take over, all with good intent, of course. They want only to play. That is their sole objective in their tiny lives.

I’ll admit — true confession time — that often, during my visits with Colleen, I am distracted and lured to watch kittens chase and attack each other.

Our poor Colleen has tried ignoring them, hiding in a box, squirreling away in a cage, curling herself into a ball, all in an effort to not engage. Her mantra could be “I want to be alone,” a la Greta Garbo. If she were Italian, she would say Non ne posso piu: “I can’t take it anymore.”

This week, the good folks at Tabby’s Place finally relented, and Colleen was allowed out in the lobby where there are no kittens. Yeah! When I visited, Colleen was curled up in the corner, peacefully catnapping in the cutest Irish-Scottish-plaid-ish cat bed, dreaming of a world with no kittens, no doubt.

Despite the irritation of kittens, Colleen has had a mellow month medically. She had some mild inflammation of the mouth, which is presently being treated with antibiotics. Colleen was also seen pawing at her face again on a single instance, and on occasion she still likes to rub her face against your hand. But, otherwise, she is in good, stable health.

Colleen and I thank you, as always, for your continued generosity to Tabby’s Place.
