First off, let me apologize for sending this update out later than usual this month. Hurricane Sandy, the storm that beat all storms, caused a delay–not only at Tabby’s Place, but also in the lives of the dedicated people who work and volunteer at this wonderful facility. But, we are working our way back to normal, and we thank you for your kind understanding.
So what’s up with Colleen?, you may be wondering. Just when I think I’ve pinned our lovely Colleen down as a sun worshipper or the girl who can’t resist turkey baby food, I discover something new.
I dropped by to visit a few days before Sandy hit, and there was Colleen, all hunkered down in a box. Now, I have 5 cats at home, so I know full well the allure of a box. But this was the first time I’ve seen Colleen inside a box.
When I first arrived, she was cat-napping inside. Someone had placed a blanket inside the box, and Colleen was curled up into a ball, looking all comfy and cozy. I thought that she probably felt all kinds of protected inside that box. It was like having your own little house in the Community Room. I really couldn’t blame her.
As I began to pet Colleen, she immediately woke up. I noticed someone had put her food on a white tray in the box with her, so she didn’t have to move hardly a muscle to chomp on down. Gee, Colleen, are you spoiled or what?
Colleen had found her own little kingdom: a place that was safe and secure, a place where she could rub her face. Now I wondered, would our Colleen ever leave that box?
Of course, she did. In fact, Colleen seems to be all fired up of late. The Tabby’s place team thinks it may have something to do with a change in her medication – or, maybe, Colleen is just feeling better. Either way, she’s been a-moving and a-shaking all around the place.
The other day, I spied Colleen out in the lobby – yes, you heard me right. She’d decided she wanted to venture out, by the glass door – near the sun, of course. She then sauntered over by the sofas in the center part of the room. I lifted her up, and we proceeded to spend some quality time together. She was purring and well enjoying herself.
On the medical front, I’m told that Colleen was receiving each and every day a rather vile pink medicine that left a stain on her sweet face, but that’s all over now! And since she hated that medication, that is very good news! The medical team is continuing to monitor Colleen’s blood work on a weekly basis, and her anemia has gotten better. Yeah! In more good news, her blood glucose has also improved.
So, enjoy this wonderful November month as best as you can! And thank you, as always, for your generous support for Colleen
Have a happy holiday season!
