Update for Chester

Look at my new fur growth!

Happy July, my sponsor friends!

Oh me, oh my, I’m still an isolated guy.

Yes, I’m still in quarantine. I’ve yet to beat this stubborn ringworm strain, but I’m doing quite well.

I’ve actually gained weight. At times, my weight has fluctuated along with my skin flares. I can’t help thinking back to when I first arrived at Tabby’s Place. My skin condition was so bad that it was painful to eat. I was so scrawny. Well, you should see me now! I’ve become a fine figure of a cat.

The medical team has been going slowly with balancing the steroid for my skin and the antifungal for the ringworm. They want me to be clear of ringworm, but they’re also focused on my overall health. I’m now getting a larger serving of food, and I have plenty of time to eat it at my leisure. All this TLC agrees with me!

This is big news…. I’ve become fluffy! No one thought it was possible. I was resigned to my male pattern baldness being permanent. Even the medical team thought it was unlikely that the fur in my most severely affected areas could regrow.

Not quite Cousin Itt, but certainly less like Uncle Fester.

What a difference a month has made. Look at the improvement compared to my banner photo taken in June. My fur is fuller and softer than it has ever been, and my ears look great! I feel like I’m transforming from Uncle Fester to Cousin Itt.

The best thing about being a Tabby’s Place cat is that I’m loved unconditionally. Everyone is happy about my new fur growth because it means my skin condition is under control, and I’m more comfortable. But I’d be just as cherished without it.

A thing about cats is that we don’t judge. My girl, Sage, loves me, fur or no fur. But I wonder what she’ll think when she sees me? I wonder if she’ll recognize me? I hope I get to find out soon. I’ll be excited to see her and my other Suite D friends, too.

I also can’t wait to see the new furnishings that were installed in our Suite this month. Suites A through E got new built-in structures and shelving. I hear that I’ll be returning to a more feline-forward room design. Wow. I bet it’s the cat’s meow.

My new state of fuzziness is well timed because the air conditioning is back and working great. I’m a cool cat now in more ways than one.

Practicing the water drum

Needless to say, my rock star status makes me exceptionally cool. I was working hard on percussion before I was quarantined. I loved that I had multiple water dishes to swish and tap in Suite D. I haven’t been able to practice the water drum in quarantine, though. If I swish too hard, my cage gets wet.

I’m down one of my backup singers, too. Clifford was cleared of ringworm and has returned to his bachelor pad in the Quinn’s Corner Lobby. Rubiks is still in the room with me, though. We sing duets now.

We’ve both become huge fans of The Kiffness. Since I’m unable to play the water drum while I’m in isolation, I’m thinking of requesting xylophone accompaniment like Xylophone Cat did. You can listen to and watch this talented cat singing with The Kiffness in their video collaboration at the end of this update.

Xylophone Cat is such an inspiration to me. Along with my new soft fur, maybe I’ll explore expressing myself through soft rock.

But first, I’d like to sing your praises. Dearest sponsor, you are a gem among humans. Your kindness is a bright light in the world. I want you to know that I couldn’t appreciate you more. Unless, of course, you bring a xylophone with you if you visit me.

Love,
Chester
