Update for Cherny

Update for Cherny

Cherny is a doll and we all love her. But, as mentioned on Cherny’s home page, the Special Needs Suite is, frankly, stinky, as a result of her incontinence.
The floors and “furniture” are waterproof, we put down lots of “puppy training pads” to absorb the urine and we wash the room out three times/week.
Despite this, it is quite unpleasant in that room.

We have been spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to fit Cherny with some kind of diapers.
We started by trying some off-the-shelf products.
These are dog/cat diapers intended for incontinent pets.
Unfortunately, none of the sizes or styles we tried would stay on Cherny, who, of course, did her best to wriggle out of them.

We communicated with some people we know who discuss special needs pets on an internet mailing list and solicited advice.
It became clear that our best bet was to custom-fit a 1-piece baby outfit to Cherny.
We would then put a diaper on her inside of this outfit.

So we purchased some baby outsits and finally found a make and size that we think will work.
One of our employees is going to modift the outfit by

  • adding a hole for her tail
  • sewing a collar into the neck opening to keep the outfit securely on her.
  • We are hopeful that we will be able to have Cherny start wearing her outfit within the next week or so.
Of course, once she does, we will need to be religious in changing her diaper several times/day and keeping her rear end very clean to avoid urine scald.

Please keep some good thoughts for us and for Cherny as we move ahead with this plan.
We should have lots more to report in next month’s update.
Until then, thanks again for caring about Cherny and supporting her.
