Update for Cherny

Update for Cherny

There is quite a bit of news to report on for Cherny this time.
Most of the news is very good, though there is one slightly distressing item.

The really good news is that Cherny has been eating so well that we were able to remove her feeding tube
We all feel this is a minor miracle, after all of the surgical complications.
And we are all so happy that Cherny will be able to enjoy her remaining time without the burden of the feeding tube.

To the right you can see a photo of dear Cherny, sans feeding tube, enjoying the fresh air in the Solarium.

The distressing news regarding Cherny is that we think she may have contracted ringworm (which is a fungal infection and not a worm of any kind).
We have recently run into some problems with ringworm at the facility and we fear that with all of the handling Cherny ws getting that she may have picked up some of the fungal spores.
We have sent the fungal culture to the lab for a definitive analysis.

But, since ringworm is highly contagious, we wanted to keep Cherny isolated so that she does not spread the (potential) infection to any other cats.
So, we decided that we could accomplish that by granting Cherny something she has wanted since she arrived at Tabby’s Place: we have set her up with a cozy covered sleeping area and we are letting her “camp out” in the Solarium.
As you will recall, Cherny adores being “outside” and the weather is beautiful, so she is greatly enjoying the outdoors.

If Cherny does have ringworm, we will use a special anti-fungal shampoo when we bathe her (which she needs regularly due to her incontinence).
So, even in the worst case, there will be little discomfort for her.

Please continue to keep a good thought for Cherny to be happy and comfortable for as long as possible.I will continue to keep you informed on her progress.
