Update for Cherny

Update for Cherny

During the time of the surgery, things were very, very hectic as we tried to care for Cherny and decide how to proceed. During this period, I sent out several email message directlyu to Cherny’s sponsors, rather than creating our standard online updates.

This worked well in keeping her sponsors up to the minute on her status, but it also left a gap in the update records, as the email messages were not available for “historical review”.

For that reason, I have created this update to contain an email message I sent during that time period. This will you to see an accurate record of Cherny’s updates.

Friends of Cherny,

This is a long update, so please bear with me.

As you recall, Cherny was taken back to the vet
hospital on Saturday morning, where they were going
to keep her, to keep her hydrated and fed while they
monitored her progress. The plan was to
syringe-feed her in hopes that she would soon regain
use of her tongue.

On Sunday, the vet hospital called to say that they
couldn’t syringe-feed her because it hurt her tongue
to have food squirted into her mouth. They wanted
to put in a feeding tube so that she could be fed
easily. We agreed, since this is a simple, common
procedure and cats usually tolerate it very well.

On Monday morning, they called to say that she was
tolerating the feeding tube very well. They also
thought it would take up to a week to know if her
tongue was healing, so they suggested we bring her
back home and care for her until Friday, when the
surgeon would recheck her tongue.

I picked Cherny up Monday night and brought her back
to Tabby’s Place. She does, indeed, tolerate the
feeding tube well and doesn’t seem bothered by it.
On the other hand, she is clearly depressed and not
her usual, happy self. It is, admittedly, difficult
to see her like this. But we still believe it is
worth a few more days to see if her tongue heals.

It appears to us that she is moving her tongue more
and this morning she actually seemed to be able to
take a small drink. This makes us hopeful, though
her condition remains very guarded.

Please continue your prayers and good thoughts for
our dear girl. I will keep you updated.
