Update for Buddy

“Cats don’t like change without their consent.” –Roger Caras

May greetings to you, and to all Buddy’s buddies.

Changes were coming thick and fast at Tabby’s Place this past month. Cats were on the move everywhere, as chronicled by lead blogger Angela, who, as it happened, was on the move herself.

But while the cats in the former Adoption Room #1 (now Angela’s office) went one place and the cats who used to call the Community Room home went somewhere else under the roof of Tabby’s Place, the residents of the FIV-positive suite stayed put. Might it have had something to do with our own little Buddy and his resolute resistance (described here, remember?) to a change in diet? If he went to the mat over food, what might he do if they tried to move him elsewhere?

So I’d have to think that it was with at least some trepidation that a volunteer poked her head into the solarium while I was enjoying the company of my ol’ pal Charlie and politely asked all of us to go inside while she did a thorough cleaning. I watched Buddy for for any sign of refusal to comply, but no, he was already scooting up the ladder on his way to the plexiglas tube that connects solarium with suite. Moments later, he was inside with the rest of his suitemates, plus one admiring human visitor.

Still on the subject of change, there’s been no change to Buddy’s health in the past month. Just in the past 12 months, he’s had trouble with his teeth and his nose, plus a brief but scary hunger strike. Maybe not as scary as the south Texas cat who was spotted in close proximity to a large rattlesnake, but plenty unsettling all the same. These days, Buddy is calm and strong, living contentedly with the help of the humans at Tabby’s Place, and in no small part thanks to humans like you and your generous donations.
