But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,
All losses are restored and sorrows end.
~William Shakespeare
I might play tough, and I might play silly, but you know, my closest friends, that I am not so hard on the inside. Friendship and love matter more than anything, and this month, I’ve been thinking about how important it is to love each other every single day.
It’s been a hard year for us lobby cats; we’ve lost many old friends, like Maggie, Peachy, Morgan, Mario, and just last week, Toya. I might not act like a fellow-feline lover, but I do appreciate a cat with some spunk and sass, and it’s hard to have to go on without someone you’re used to seeing every day. I know you know this, too, and you also know that one of the best things we can do for another who’s heartbroken is just give them some space to be, to start getting used to the new shape of things.
I mention this, because this month, a Tabby’s Place donor visited the sanctuary, suffering a broken heart after losing her own cat to a long cancer battle. She asked if she could just sit quietly in the lobby for a while, and I could tell she needed some extra love and care. I headed straight for her lap, and I stayed with her for a good long time. She came back the next day, too, and I was honored to be able to comfort her again.
My dearest, loveliest people, I joke sometimes about wanting you to visit so that you can pet me, but in reality, you are so welcome to come in if you are the one who needs a hug! And if you can’t make it in for a visit to the lobby, please know that I love you as much as you love me, and I’m sending you the biggest, klonkiest head butt through the intertubes.
I am grateful for the blessing of your love every single day.
Yours,
Boots
