Update for Boots

Happy July, my dearest friends!

I am one excited cat. We are heading into my favorite time of year – holiday season! No, no, not the traditional holidays that everyone thinks of, but some magnificent holidays nonetheless.

July, for example, seems to inspire patriotic spirit all over the world. Canada Day is on July 2, eh, and Belgium National Day is on the 21st (and we do love our sassy Belgian feline friends).

The French, of course, are observing Bastille Day on the 14th. For some reason, Piper and Sherbert have got it in their heads to celebrate this holiday big time – their office space is gated to keep them separate from us, and they’ve been pretending that they’re actually being held in the Bastille. And talking in French accents. It’s just silly, if you ask me.

Most of us, though, as you might have guessed, were busy lighting sparklers and singing good ol’ American patriotic songs for Independence Day on the 4th of July. My favorite, you ask? It’s that famous traditional song about the fight for liberty and freedom – Bootsy Doodle! Cue the fifes and drums!

Bootsy Doodle

Olive and I set down to nap,
Along with Tink and Toya;
Right there among the treats and toys,
All scattered round the foya.

Bootsy doodle, keep it up,
Bootsy doodle dandy;
Mind the poultry and the fish,
And all snacks from the pantry.

There were Halie, Angel and
A new kitty named Lars (ja!),
While Piper and her Sherbert friend,
Meowed from ‘hind their bars (ha!)

And gentle Divya on the desk,
Was anglin’ for some scritchin’.
But all of us would rather have
Some output from the kitchen.

And then we saw the trays of food,
A-comin’ through the doorway;
Upon a platter large enough,
To carry all the cats’ faves.

And every time they’d put some down,
In front of some dear kitty;
(So many dishes full of food –
It’s like a hundred fitty!)

As one was placed before your Boots,
My nap went out the window;
My food was hued a gentle pink –
Could it be stewed flamingo?

Ah, no, it’s salmon – what a dish!
(For birds, I stick to chicken
Perhaps some turkey with some giblets
In the sauce to thicken.)

We all did munch away like fun,
And nosh on tasty vittles,
As ever gorgeous, sweet, and svelte,
(Don’t measure ‘round our middles!)

Bootsy doodle, keep it up,
Bootsy doodle dandy;
Mind the poultry and the fish,
And all snacks from the pantry.

Hmm…did I not mention that the liberty of which we sang was of food from the constraints of cans? Three cheers for the freedom of fish! Liberate the liver! All hail the deliverance of deliciousness from the tyranny of pop-top canning! Well, you get the idea.

I hope you are enjoying the summer and whichever wonderful holidays you observe! All my love to you!

Yours,
Boots
