Happy New Year to you!

My dear friends, it’s been cold, and dark, and windy outside, but isn’t the very idea of a New Year just so exciting? I can hardly believe that it’s 2015, and that I’m an 8-year-old cat! I always thought that 8-year-olds were such fuddy-duddys. All naps and food, no brawling or rampaging from them. Now, well, I see the error of my ways. Clearly, being 8 is the absolute pinnacle of a cat’s existence. And naps and food are really totally awesome.

I’ve been hearing some of the people around here talking about New Year’s resolutions, and not being one to rest on any of the various laurels I have accumulated, I thought making a few resolutions myself would be a good idea. I cast about for some inspiration from the ideas I heard people mention, and here’s my resolution list:

1. Lose weight. Lots of people seem to think this is important for them, so I gave it a whirl. What did weight loss get me? A physical exam and bloodwork from our vet staff. All normal, of course, but I think maybe I’ll cancel my pursuit of this resolution.

2. Eat healthy food. Hmm, let me fix that…eat healthy food. That’s better.

3. Manage stress. Well, if I can keep getting those irritatingly sweet and adorable lobby-mates like Mimi and Oksana adopted, my stress level should stay just fine.

4. Get fit. Wait, what? I fit on a sofa. I fit on a chair. Most importantly, I fit on a lap. What is this “get fit” thing?

Geez, you people make up weird resolutions; I think I should just make up my own. How do these sound to you?

1. Learn to hug. My correspondent was in the other day, and after I sat in her lap for a while, she hoisted me up to her shoulder. I snuzzled in her neck for a few minutes, and then put my head down for a nap. I’m thinking I need to practice this hugging thing very, very often so that I can get as good at it as I am at lap napping.

2. Write new AWESOME songs! Well really, what did you expect? I’m working on one right now, actually, to the tune of “Oklahoma”.

Jaaaaaaaaaaaaa- nuary
Where the wind comes sweepin’ through the door.
And the dinner treats are oh so sweet
When they put some fish down on the floor!

Some people ask me, “Boots, how do you do it? You are the best song writer ever!” All I have to say is (cue Chicago…the group, not the musical!):

You’re the sponsors in my life,
You’re my inspiration…

Thank you, dear friends! Stay cozy in this cold weather!

Much love,
Your Boots
