My dear friends,
Here we are with another holiday upon us. As a black cat, you might imagine that I like Halloween…and I do! I’ve been working on my favorite Halloween songs, preparing for that magical night when all our kittens dress up and visit us in the lobby. “Trick or treat!” they cry, and we give them fishes and treats to snack on. They’ve learned to stay away from Halie, though. She’s all tricks, no treats.
My favorite chant so far this year is the classic, “5 Little Tuna Fish”. You know that one, right?
Five little tuna fish sitting on the gate.
The first one said, “Oh, my it’s getting late.”
The second one said, “There are witches in the air.”
The third one said, “But I don’t care.”
The fourth one said, “Let’s swim and swim and swim.”
The fifth one said, “I’ve got a fancy fin.”
Out went the light and the wind went “Ooooo!”
And the five little tuna fish got eaten by Boots!
Aside from the holiday, though, I have some big news for you. I had my biannual cardiac ultrasound this month, and once again, the results were stellar: my heart remains stable. It must be all the love you keep giving me from the bottom of your own hearts that’s working some magic on me. And at this point, since I’ve been stable for so long, the vet here believes my heart may never worsen. That’s a pretty huge deal.
While I’m still, of course, a “Special Needs” cat, (and really, it goes without saying that I am immensely special in every way!), this does make me a great deal more adoptable. The people here considered my condition near-terminal for so long that they didn’t push for a family to adopt me, but that’s changed now. While the unusually wonderful person who I’m looking for to take me home will need to give me my daily medications, you and I both know that would be a small price to pay for my companionship.
I confess, I’ve caught myself daydreaming about having a home of my own since I heard the news. It helps me cope on the days when Oksana steals laps from right under my very whiskers. Cripes. Some cats will never learn – you don’t mess with the Boots.
Keep your fingers crossed for me, my friends!
Love,
Boots
