Update for Boots

Arrrrr, mateys!

That’s right, International Talk Like a Pirate Day is nearly upon us. Here in the Lobby, we prefer to celebrate the day as “Eat Like a Pirate’s Cat” Day, given that there has got to be a lot of fish on the menu for seafaring folk. We’re pretty excited, all in all, though we try not to let the people around here know too much. Gotta play it cool, of course, when people are around.

I’ll let you in on a little secret, though. Late at night, when all is quiet, you can hear someone humming under her breath. (Another secret: it’s Toya, though you’d never guess it from her daytime behavior!) It’s an infectious tune, though, and soon enough, everyone is singing along and the Lobby is ringing with the sound of pirate chanteys.

My favorite? Well, since you asked…

Dead Man’s Chest

Fifteen plates on a dead man’s chest
Yo ho ho and some fishes – oh yum!
Dinner, my mateys, had done for the rest
Yo ho ho and some fishes – oh yum!
Casper, transfixed by the trout and pike
Mario gobbles the morsels he likes
And Morgan’s dish was marked belike
It had been gripped by fingers ten;
And there it lay, that good salmon!
Like break o’day for your Boots’s friends
Yo ho ho and some fishes – oh yum!

Fifteen plates on the dinner list
Yo ho ho and some fishes – oh yum!
Eaten, be damned and the rest gone whist!
Yo ho ho and some fishes – oh yum!
Oksana lay with her nob in sole
Where the food had been left – the fishes whole.
The shrimp! The cod! And the tasty goal
There it had lain, the juicy bites
Swallowed down ‘fore my gleaming eyes
In murk sunset and foul sunrise
Yo ho ho and some fishes – oh yum!

Fifteen plates of it, sniff and start
Yo ho ho and some fishes – oh yum!
Ten dishes had good Boots’s mark!
Yo ho ho and some fishes – oh yum!
‘Twas a tonguéd swipe or a taste. I’ve fed
This yawing hole in my handsome head.
To my stomach’s glut, ‘fore I claim my bed.
And there the fish, aye, bless my eyes
I must have gained at least one size.
Now I’m fit for snoozing sighs.
Yo ho ho and some fishes – oh yum!

Arrrrr! Fair winds, me buckos!
Captain Boots

PS: In all seriousness, I’m doing mighty fine. In fact, my health has been so stable and superb that there’s talk amongst the humans of my being pretty adoptable after all. But, more on that next month…
