Update for Boots

Hello, sponsors of Boots!

We hope you’re all enjoying this dry, hot summer. Before you know it, we’ll be complaining about the cold…

I visited Boots last night for his monthly interview and he was much livelier than some months (she said sarcastically). At least he opened his eyes (twice) and yawned at me. He looks so peaceful and content curled up on a chair in the lobby. It’s hard to believe that he’s the terror everyone says he is. Tabby’s Place Executive Director Jonathan Rosenberg confirmed it last night, however, saying he’s a love with humans but really doesn’t like his fellow felines. The staff apparently hears and then breaks up cat fights in the lobby on a regular basis.

While I was there, I was given some excellent news about Boots – he’s off one of his heart meds! Boots had an ultrasound of his heart earlier in the month that showed that his heart disease was stable, so the staff decided to try weaning him off of the diuretic he takes (prescribed to keep fluids from building up in his chest cavity). That would be best, because a cat can develop a tolerance to this medication, and it’s not great for his kidneys. We’ll have to see how Boots will do without the meds, so the staff has been monitoring his respiration rate (if the fluid in his chest built up in response to the change in meds, he’d have to exert more effort to breathe). All is well so far. This is really good news for our sleepy little guy. Upon hearing the news, guess what Boots did. Yup, he took a nap. Then he changed position and napped again. What a life!

Thank you, as always, for your generous support of our sleepy troublemaker!
