Update for Boots

Update for Boots

A very happy Ides of March to you.

It is with delight that I note: this March has come in like a white, puffy lamb here in New Jersey. There is nothing lion-like about the brilliant sunshine and mild temperatures. Fortunately, we can still get our lion fix by visiting our handsome friend, Boots.

You guessed it: Boots is still keeping a careful watch on his “pride” of lobby cats. The other day I watched him catnapping on a stuffed chair. He ignored people, but as any other cat walked near his chair, Boots would open one eye halfway and follow his rival’s progress until he walked out of view. No rest for the wary!!

Medically, our feisty tuxedo boy gave us quite a scare this month. One morning, he showed all the awful signs of having a total urinary blockage. Upon seeing his repeated, futile trips to use the litter box, followed by furious grooming of his bottom, we rushed Boots to the emergency vet, since blockage can rapidly become fatal. But, despite his classic symptoms, Boots was not blocked at all. His bladder, however, had a good bit of debris. We’re not quite sure what this was all about, but subsequent testing has shown Boots to be just fine, and he’s had no recurrence of this episode.

(In a side note, there are multiple reasons we’re grateful Boots wasn’t blocked. If he had been, he would probably have needed to start eating a prescription diet…and the only Tabby’s Place suite currently eating this diet is that of Trey, Cypress and “Mad Max.” I can’t imagine that Boots and Max would have made for a friendly combination. Fortunately we won’t have to find out.)

Sadly, this will be my last update for a while. A new business, and travel plans that come with it, mean that I need to cut back on volunteer work and devote my time to these other things. I’ve really loved writing to you about the handsomest cat at Tabby’s Place, and hope you have enjoyed hearing all the news about him and Tabbys Place. Starting next month, Boots will send you his updates through a new human friend.

Best wishes for a lovely spring, and thank you for all your generosity to Boots.
