Update for Bagheera

Update for Bagheera

Greetings, Bagheera buddies,

Bagheera is doing well on his diet, and will remain on the current food
regimen for the time being. His weight was slightly down recently – hurrah! We recheck his weight regularly to make sure his diet is just right. Of course, Bags continues to flourish on a steady diet of affection and doting from everyone in the office, and will let us know with his insistent “Meow!” if we’re slacking off on our “cuddling Bags” duties.

Every year Tabby’s Place has a volunteer appreciation picnic. This year we had the gathering at a local park. It was a beautiful day, and fun was had by all. We even played a Tabby’s Place trivia game. Naturally, there was lots of food and plenty of desserts to enjoy.

Of course, you all know that Bagheera has to attend all the celebrations that go on here. It wouldn’t be right if he didn’t come to this party. Jonathan gave the OK to take Bagheera along. The picnic took place under a pavillion with a concrete pad, so I knew it would be easy for Bags to get around and visit (not that he stayed on the concrete – there was way too much exciting grass available to explore).

When I went to pick him up at Tabby’s Place, I wasn’t sure which carrier to use. Bagheera actually hasn’t traveled since coming here over two years ago. As I was deciding between two different carriers, I put one down near him and Bags(as usual) made the decision for himself.

He scooted over to it and went right on in. We got into the car, and as we drove he looked around making little sounds. We stopped at a traffic light, and stretched up very tall and stared outside. I’m not sure what was in his sight, but he was very fixed on it!

When we arrived at the park, I put Bagheera in his garden cart so he could look around and get used to his surroundings. About ½ hour later I put him into his “wheels,” and away he went. Bags was fearless and went to the other side of the pavillion and across the grass. We all remarked on how great he was being (of course, he is a great cat).

As you know, Bagheera’s bladder has to be manually expressed three times a day, and this day was no different. I asked Jon to express him, and away they went…into the woods! See picture at left – Jonathan and Bagheera aren’t visible for obvious reasons.

By then it was dinner time, so I put Bags back into his garden cart, where he ate. More guests were arriving, and everyone was happy to see him and to give him lots of attention. After a while Bags went back into his wheels and visited everyone, running over people’s feet if they were in his way.

I think he had a great time at the picnic and a lot of good exercise, because the next day he slept in one of his relaxed positions for almost the whole day.

Well, summer is over, so happy fall from Bags and me, and may the leaves fall PURRfectly for you,

Ginny & Bags
