Update for Bacon

Dear Friend,

I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer. I certainly have been enjoying mine, and, more importantly, I have been enjoying good health! Life is always good when I get to say that!

My secretary Lynn continues to visit Sally and me. She always brings us treats and toys. I’ve noticed that Sally isn’t too interested in most toys and has become quite selective when it comes to treats. It seems that she prefers certain treats and ignores others. When Sally puts her paws on Lynn’s knees and looks at her imploringly, Lynn always gives her some treats. Recently, she has looked at the Temptations treats and walked away.

Unlike Her Royal Highness, a true diva, I am appreciative of almost all treats and accept them graciously. I must admit, however, that I do have my favorites when it comes to toys. On one visit, Lynn was going through her toy bag, looking for a mouse, when I heard her say, “Oops! I gave your mouse to Lucas.” I have no idea who Lucas is, but what was he doing with MY mouse? She offered me other toys, but none of them interested me.

I know you’ve heard of Elizabethan collars, Georgian architecture, and Victorian literature, but have you ever heard of Baconian behavior? I’ve heard that term used frequently at Tabby’s Place. I don’t know if I should be honored or insulted. One example of what has been referred to as Baconian behavior occurred several weeks ago. Jonathan Rosenberg, the Founder and Executive Director of Tabby’s Place, was sitting on the floor while cleaning my crate. I like Jonathan and enjoy interacting with him. He knows that, and I think he enjoys interacting with me. That day, I was jumping on his leg, which was normal for me, but then, for some inexplicable reason, I bit down on his thigh. I don’t think I bit him too hard, but he jumped up and shooed me into my crate. He wasn’t too happy, and I felt embarrassed. I guess Baconian behavior refers to something I do that’s unexpected and slightly weird.

On one of Lynn’s recent visits, another volunteer joined us for a short time. Lynn told her that I’d been a bit antsy that day. I have no idea why Lynn said that; I am not anything like an ant! Besides running around a lot, the only unusual thing that I’d done was nibble on one leg of Lynn’s slacks. I was curious and wanted to know what the fabric tasted like. When I nibbled on our visitor’s jeans, she raised that leg away from me and stood on her other leg. She looked funny! I guess I upset her, because she left and continued talking to Lynn from the other side of the gate. Don’t they know that, like most cats, I’m curious? When I think about it, I guess that might have been another example of Baconian behavior.

Lynn told me that August 22nd is “Be an Angel Day” and that I was lucky because there are so many angels looking after me every day! She’s right! I am so thankful for all my angels! I am especially thankful for Jonathan and his wife Sharon. If they hadn’t created this wonderful sanctuary, I hate to think what would have happened to me!

When I think about it, all the staff members, especially the medical staff, are truly my angels. They have ensured that I have received lots of love and the most amazing medical care. I know it hasn’t been easy for them dealing with a cat with a sleep disorder, but every staff member has been wonderful.

I also have my own very special angels. One is Karina, Volunteer Coordinator at Tabby’s Place. She has accepted me as one of her officemates, and her office has been the best place for me!

You, Dear Sponsor, are my other very special angel! Your support makes it possible for me to stay here! Thank you so much!

Realizing that I have so many angels watching over me is not the only reason that I feel special. I have my very own day, and it’s international! The first Saturday before Labor Day is “International Bacon Day.” This year, it’s celebrated on Saturday, September 1st. I can’t wait to see how we celebrate my special day at Tabby’s Place!

Love and hugs,
Bacon
