Update for Bacon

Dear Sponsor,

I hope this past month has been as good for you as it’s been for me. I’ve had a fantastic month! Because I’ve been calm and healthy, there’s no new medical news to report! At Tabby’s Place, when it comes to medical reports, no news is always good news!

There’s a certain predictability to life in Karina’s office, and I find that comforting. I know what to expect; there are few surprises. I am one cat that does not like surprises. During the day, I’m crated and Sally’s out. In the evening, things are reversed. That means that I don’t get to interact with as many people as Sally, but I’m certainly not forgotten. Volunteers frequently take visitors on tours, and our office seems to be popular stop on each tour. According to Angela Hartley, the Development Director, visitors seem affected by my story and are drawn to me. I guess my story is an unusual one. As far as I know, not too many cats have suffered from sleep disorders!

Every Friday, Lynn comes to visit Sally as part of the Enrichment Program. Sally’s a smart cat; she knows that she’ll get treats if she plays. She plays most of the time, but not always for more than a few minutes. I’ve seen her interact with a toy for several minutes and then go over to Lynn, put her paws on Lynn’s knees, and wait for the treats. Of course, she’s rewarded with treats. Sally seems to prefer the wand toys, but there are days when she’s not even interested in them; then, she just won’t play.

Unless I’m asleep, I watch Sally and Lynn. Since I’m crated, I don’t get to play, but Lynn gives me treats every time she visits Sally! Lynn always pets me and tells me how special I am.
When Lynn comes to visit me, it’s always after Sally’s been crated and I’m out. I usually greet her by going over to her, pushing my head into her hand, and doing a little jump. She really seems happy when I do that and calls it a “Hootzie.” On her last visit, I did that several times. She seems entertained by my little jumps.

Lynn always talks to me, pets me, and scratches my head. On her last visit, she brought her toy-filled plastic bag again. This time, she didn’t wait for me to pull out toys since I hadn’t done that on her previous visit; she took several toys out for me. When she saw that I seemed to like a yellow mouse, she left it out for me. We then played with a red wand. She brings this wand just for me! Sally has never played with MY wand!

I try to show Lynn that I’m a good roommate and want to be friends with Sally by going over to Sally’s cage to check on her. So far, Sally has ignored my attempts at friendship. She continues to ignore me. I shouldn’t complain; at least, Sally doesn’t attack me.

I haven’t always had such good luck with roommates. For a short time, I was in the small room between the FIV+ Suite and Suite C. I had a difficult time in there. I was still suffering from a sleep disorder and was having seizures. Although my erratic behavior probably upset my roomies, I got along with most of them. There was one cat, however, that swatted me a lot, especially when treats were involved. Lynn had noticed this and always fed me my treats away from Riley, my nemesis.

Last year this time, I was in Adoption Room 3 (AR3). Now it’s an office, but it was an adoption room that was home to some very nice, quiet cats. For some reason, there was one cat in there that just didn’t like me. I tried to avoid her by spending time resting in my crate. When I was in AR3, Lynn still visited me. On one of her visits, she first spent time with Philippa and Ali, petting Phillipa and giving them both treats. She then sat down and called me over. I left my crate, where I’d been resting, and slowly went over to greet her. I sat down in front of her, and she started to scratch my head. Suddenly, Luna rushed over and swatted at me! I immediately rushed back to the safety of my crate. I still don’t know what I had done to annoy Luna.

After living with Riley and Luna, I’m very happy to be rooming with Sally. She might ignore me, but she’s never swatted me. It’s funny, but both Sally and I had behavioral problems before moving into Karina’s office. Now, I think we’d both be described as model citizens!

Thank you so much for caring about me and sponsoring me. As you can see, my time here has been challenging for the staff. I’m certain that most other places would have given up on me a long time ago. Fortunately for me, I’m here! I think Tabby’s Place is a special place where miracles happen. It doesn’t matter what problem(s) a cat has, unless it has leukemia, it’s welcomed at Tabby’s Place. In the future, who knows? It’s possible that Tabby’s Place can expand and become a sanctuary for many more cats. Contributions from sponsors like yours just might help that happen.

Again, thank you so much!

Love,
Bacon
