Update for Bacon

Dear Friend,

I hope you’re enjoying the cooler autumn weather. Since the window in Karina’s office has a view of the lobby, I don’t know what it looks like outside. I have heard that the autumnal colors should be spectacular this year. I hope you enjoy them.

For the most part, my health report is positive. I haven’t had any episodes similar to the one I had in August. There is, however, one extremely embarrassing item that I have to report. When Karina arrived one morning, she saw that I had urinated everywhere. Since this was the first time I had done this, they are going to test my urine to see if they can determine the cause for my unusual behavior. I could have a UTI, urinary tract infection, or there could be some other cause. I am so embarrassed! Karina lets me share her office, and she had to walk into a mess I’d left. I know she has forgiven me, but I still feel terrible!

I definitely enjoy living in Karina’s office. A lot of people might think I don’t like being crated all day. The truth is that it works for me. I can see what’s happening while I’m safe in my nice, large crate. Staff members, volunteers, and visitors frequently visit during the day. Since I’m not always comfortable around strangers, I’m better off in my crate. I also enjoy a catnap, now and then.

When I’m in my crate, I get to see what Sally is doing without bothering her. For some reason, she does not like me! Lynn comes to see Sally every Friday as part of the Enrichment Program. On some days, Sally’s happy to play; on other days, she ignores Lynn. Last Friday, Lynn brought out my cute red wand toy. We’d played with it the last time Lynn visited me. Why did she have it out now? I couldn’t play.

Then I saw her dangling it above my cage. I quickly discovered why. Sally must have been in the bed next to Karina’s computer, and Lynn wanted her to play. Lynn used the wand to lure Sally out of her bed. Sally jumped from her bed, onto Karina’s chair, and then onto the floor. After they played with my wand for several minutes, Lynn brought out SmartyKat, a toy that Sally likes. I think she likes it because she can pounce on it and attack it. Sally played with it for a few minutes, but walked away when she decided that she was finished. She walked to the door and put her back to Lynn. Welcome to my world!

I enjoy exploring the office. I am always careful not to disturb anything. Like Sally, I enjoy resting or napping in the bed next to Karina’s computer. Since the bed is directly above my crate, I think I have more of a right to it than Sally does! Obviously, I’m not going to share that thought with Sally.

I know that Halloween is coming soon. If Sally needs a disguise, she could be Grumpy Cat. Wait a minute! She doesn’t need a disguise for that; she already is a grumpy cat where I’m concerned.

Another holiday this month is National Cat Day on October 29th. This holiday was established to make people aware of the great number of homeless cats. Some of these are cats who need to be rescued; others are cats living in colonies that need to be cared for and monitored. Tabby’s Place works with a lot of people who are taking care of colonies. Tabby’s Place finds homes for their kittens and administers health care to the adults. If, for some reason, a cat can’t be returned to its colony, it has a home at Tabby’s Place. It seems that every day is treated like National Cat Day here!

Tabby’s Place has recently celebrated a very special anniversary! On October 5, 2003, Jonathan and Sharon Rosenberg opened the doors to Tabby’s Place. Since that day fourteen years ago, thousands of miracles have occurred here! More than 2,500 cats have been saved, and more than 1,600 have been adopted. In so many cases, these were cats who were considered in hopeless situations. Some needed expensive medical care; Tabby’s Place saw that they received the best. Some were considered “too old” to be adopted. If they weren’t adopted, they had a loving home right here in Ringoes.

It didn’t matter if the cats were blind, deaf, or three-legged, they were welcomed here. How many places would take paraplegic cats? Not many! Anka, the 10th paraplegic cat to come to Tabby’s Place, recently came here from Turkey, via New York City. The last fourteen years here have certainly been amazing! Who knows what miracles the next fourteen will bring. Whatever they are, I’m sure thousands of cats will be meowing a grateful “Thank You.”
I am one of those cats that probably would have been considered hopeless. I hate to think what my fate would have been if I hadn’t found my way to Tabby’s Place.

Thank you so much for caring about me, supporting me, and making it possible for me to stay here, cared for by these wonderful miracle workers.

Love,
Bacon
