Update for Bacon

Dear Wonderful Sponsors,

I’m back! I don’t know why, but Lynn insisted on writing last month’s update. I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer. I certainly have been enjoying mine!

Although my behavior hasn’t caused anyone any concern this month, I did manage to give everyone a slight scare recently. On one Saturday when Karina arrived, she discovered that I had vomited a lot during the night. I was lethargic and wasn’t interested in eating. Karina was so concerned, she contacted the medical team immediately. They gave me some medications and observed my behavior. I heard that they were going to take me to an emergency veterinarian if necessary. Fortunately, I was back to normal the next day. Everyone here really cares about me and keeps watchful eyes to make sure I’m doing well.

For the most part, though, I’ve had a great month. I really enjoy sharing the office with wonderful Karina and Sally. It’s usually quite interesting living here, and some fresh entertainment has recently been added.

Tabby’s Place has started an Enrichment Program for the cats. Lynn visits Sally every Friday and brings some kind of mechanical toy or wand toy to encourage Sally to play. If I’m not too busy sleeping, I enjoy watching them. The first time around, Sally wasn’t too interested in Lynn’s choice of toys. I don’t blame her. It was just a plastic mouse running in and out of holes on a circular base. I know I wouldn’t have played with it.

Lynn brought a toy Sally liked much better the following Friday. In fact, after Sally had studied it, she played a long time! While Sally played, Lynn spent some time talking to me and giving me treats. Of course, Sally received some treats, too.
When she visits after Sally’s been crated for the night, Lynn concentrates on me. She always pets me and talks to me. Once, to show her that I was happy to see her, I jumped up and bumped her hand with my head. For some reason, she became really excited and exclaimed, “Oh, Bacon, you did a Hootzie!” I had no idea what she meant, but it certainly made her happy!

On that same day, instead of a noisy mechanical toy, Lynn had brought a wand toy for me. It had a bunch of feathers on the end of the string. I knew it wasn’t a bird, but I still had fun playing with it. I batted at those feathers and chased them around for quite a long time. At the end, Lynn rested the feathers on a bed where she had placed some treats. Eating the treats gave me a chance to rest a bit.

I don’t think I told you that there is a cat tree and a nice scratching post in the office. I don’t use the cat tree, but I do enjoy using the scratching post. In fact, after I had finished my treats, I used it. I love stretching and scratching. It’s fun!

After I finished scratching, I walked over to where Lynn was sitting. She gave me some more attention. She scratched my head and rubbed me under my chin for a long time. When she got up to leave, I followed her to the door, hoping she would let me out. I really would have enjoyed a walk in the hall. Lynn told me that I had to stay, but that she’d be back. Maybe next time, she’ll take me for a walk in the hall. One can only hope!

When Karina’s in the office, she frequently leaves the door open, so Sally and I have a good view of all the activity in the hall. Unfortunately, we can’t get out; there’s a gate, trapping us inside. At least, we get to see a lot of people, going to and from the lounge. There always seems to be a lot of people, both staff and volunteers, passing our room. Since it’s usually quiet in our office, I don’t mind the traffic in the hall.

As you know, there are a lot of Special Needs cats at Tabby’s Place. Since I’m one of them, I really appreciate what Tabby’s Place does for us. I’ve been able to receive much-needed medical care because of support from sponsors like you. Another crucial source of support is the Linda Fund. This year the fund-raising drive has been extended until the middle of September. I think it’s a wonderful cause!

My dear Sponsor, thank you so much for your continued support. If you haven’t had the chance to visit Tabby’s Place yet, I hope you can do so soon. I’d love to meet you! Meantime, enjoy the rest of the summer!

Your loving friend,

Bacon
