Dear Sponsor,
Bacon will return to writing his own updates next month, but I decided to write this one. Don’t panic! Nothing’s wrong with our boy. In fact, it’s all very good news! In Bacon’s last medical update, Angela, our Development Director, said, “Our beloved-but-challenging boy has been astoundingly stable, both medically and behaviorally.” His seizures are much, much rarer, and that makes all of us very happy.
I want to thank you so much for sponsoring Bacon. Because of your support, Bacon’s world is a much brighter place!
Bacon has come such a long way from the day I first saw him. When I first met him, he was in a small room with a few other cats. That might sound great, but it wasn’t. At times, Bacon seemed quite tense. One of the other cats was quite dominant and frequently upset Bacon. When I first approached Bacon, he wasn’t sure about me. Fortunately, thanks to Temptations, Bacon and I became friends. I always gave treats to all the cats in the room, but I made sure Bacon received his away from the others. That way, he could relax a bit more.
Since he moved into Karina’s office, the world has become a much better place for Bacon. He lives with Karina, whom he adores, and Sally, whom he ignores. At one time, I thought that he and Sally might become friends: the “Odd Couple” of Tabby’s Place. Alas, it was not to be. Sally emphatically said, “No way!” They both enjoy their new home, living comfortably while pretending the other does not exist. It’s a shame some countries can’t take a lesson from them.
If you haven’t seen Karina’s office, let me tell you a little about it. There isn’t a traditional desk; instead, there’s a large table that wraps around two of the walls. Bacon’s large crate is under the table to the left of Karina’s chair. When Karina’s working in her office, she’s close to Bacon and gives him lots of attention. When Karina is not in the office, Sally frequently claims the chair. As usual, she ignores Bacon, and that is fine with him!
Bacon is now so much calmer. Every time I visit Tabby’s Place, I check in on Bacon. It is wonderful to see him sleeping peacefully in his crate. The key word is peacefully! It’s so good to see him completely relaxed. If he’s not sleeping, he’s just sitting there, watching what’s going on. He always looks calm and content – no longer tense! As you know, Bacon is a cat who needs an environment that is peaceful. Karina’s office provides him with tranquility.
When he is up and about, Bacon is very comfortable in the room. When he was in the Special Needs suite or Adoption Room 3, he was frequently on the alert, watching right and left, making sure he was safe. He seemed to have trouble relaxing. That is no longer the case. There are no other cats who bother him, and he is able to enjoy his new home.
Bacon loves treats and I still give him Temptations. He also like toys. I always choose his toys carefully. Sally loves catnip toys, and I frequently bring her one. Because I don’t want Bacon to become over-stimulated, I haven’t given him any catnip toys, and I’ve never seen him playing with any of Sally’s.
I’m sure there are some lying around.
The other rooms had frequent visitors, and I’m sure that didn’t thrill our boy. Bacon doesn’t mind being petted a little, but he doesn’t really like to be handled. He’s a sweet, loving boy, but he will never be a cuddler like Dingo or Sam! The fact that Karina’s office has fewer visitors is good news to our sweet boy.
Like you, I sponsor Bacon and adore him. For months, I worried about him so much. Seeing him in Karina’s office is such a joy. Knowing that he is safe and comfortable is wonderful. If you ever have a chance to visit Tabby’s Place, you’ll see what I mean.
As you know, Bacon is just one of many Special Needs cats at Tabby’s Place. Caring for these cats and seeing that they receive the best medical care is a huge undertaking and can be very expensive. One way that Tabby’s Place handles some of these expenses is through the Linda Fund. As explained on the website: “The Linda Fund provides our neediest cats with life-saving care.” The Linda Fund is dedicated to emergency and specialty medical services.
We are now in the middle of the Linda Fund Matching Challenge. From now until August 10th, every dollar you donate will be matched by 147 anonymous donors, up to a total of $216, 688. I know that you generously sponsor Bacon, but if you could make even a small donation, it would be greatly appreciated.
The “poster cat” for this year’s drive is Sam, a wonderful boy who now lives in the lounge. He is one of my favorite cats and has been through so much. With help from the Linda Fund, cats like Sam are able to receive the special treatments and care that they need.
Please, keep Bacon, Sam, and all of the cats at Tabby’s Place in your prayers.
Thank you,
