Dear Friend,
My correspondent Lynn has decided to let me write my own update this month. I am so glad, because now I can tell you everything that I think is important, and you will be able to get to know the real Bacon!
Life in Volunteer Coordinator Karina’s office is great! According to Angela, Tabby’s Place’s Development Director, I am doing “astonishingly well.” I love being part of Karina’s office staff! I know that Sally is second-in-command and that her job is significantly more important job than mine, but I can live with that. After all, Sally has the day shift and has more important responsibilities. In addition to screening visitors, she oversees Karina’s work at the computer. I have the feeling that Sally secretly wants to learn how to use the computer. If she ever learns to use the keyboard, I think we might be in big trouble.
Since I have the night shift, I don’t have as many responsibilities. There are not too many visitors to greet late in the day, but Lynn has visited me on several occasions. Our visits have been so much more pleasant than they were in Adoption Room 3; we no longer have to worry about Luna causing trouble. Lynn always spends time petting me and talking to me, telling me how much she loves me and how special I am. It definitely feels good to be loved and appreciated.
On one of her visits, Lynn found me napping on a nice, soft bed on the floor. As soon as she came into the office, I got up and went to greet her. After spending a few minutes with her, I decided to check out the office. When I saw Sally, comfortably resting in her large crate, I went over to pay a visit. I slowly approached the crate, hoping to initiate a friendship, but Sally was not interested. In fact, she swatted at me, displaying her bright red nail tips! I got the message!
After I sat, staring at looking at Sally for a few seconds more, I jumped onto her crate and went to check out the desk area. Lynn encouraged me, telling me how glad she was that I was so comfortable and relaxed in my new home. I carefully walked across the large desk area, being very careful not to disturb anything. After I had completed my investigation and had seen that everything was in in its proper place, I jumped down and went back to entertaining my guest.
Late one afternoon, as soon as I heard the door opening, I rushed over to the gate to greet my visitor. It was Lynn, but she did not come into the office. She stood in the hall, talking to me through the gate. I thought that was odd until she told me she did not want to be responsible for one of my escapes. Oops! I guess she had heard about my little adventure.
I refuse to tell you how, but I did manage to get out of the office one evening. According to Angela, I “blasted into the hallway.” I simply wanted to get out for a bit and check out the hall. If you have been to Tabby’s Place, you know that I could not go very far or get into any trouble. I was enjoying myself until Lisa, one of the nicest staff members, caught me. I did not give her too much trouble, but I did demonstrate my displeasure by wriggling and squirming as she carried me back to the office.
I know that Sally is very special to Karina, but Karina always spends time with me each morning when she comes into the office. I know she loves me and cares a great deal about me. I think that is one of the reasons I am so much happier now. I get to spend time with people who truly love me. Whoever came up with the idea of this time-sharing arrangement was a genius. It is such a great idea and certainly has made my life much better!
I heard that June is “Adopt a Cat Month.” I feel bad that we have to remind people that they should consider adopting a cat. We make wonderful companions and are certainly adoptable all year! I do not understand it, but so many people want to adopt kittens. Why? I guess because they are all playful, cute, and cuddly. What happens when someone wants a lap cat, and that cute kitten grows up to be a cat that does not want to sit on anyone’s lap? It happens. Why not adopt a cat that has proven to be a lap cat? I know we have some right here at Tabby’s Place. I do hope people consider adopting an older cat!
For those people who do want to adopt a kitten or just want to see the kittens, Tabby’s Place is holding its annual Kitten Shower from 12-4 on Saturday, June 24th. If you’re in the area, you should stop by. I heard that it is a lot of fun.
I am certain that Sally will be checking out all the action on the 24th. If she sits on Karina’s desk, she’ll be able to see everything. I am sure she will be looking for Karina. Fortunately for me, I’ll be resting comfortably in my nice large crate. I am very content there; I like it because it is safe and quiet. I prefer it when it is quiet; I do not like chaos!
Thanks to you, Dear Sponsor, my life is not filled with chaos, but with tranquility. You help make it possible for me to live at Tabby’s Place, where I receive the best possible care. The staff continuously monitors my health and provides for my every need. I am so thankful to them and to you.
Love,
Bacon
