Update for Anka

Dear Friends of Anka,

Anka pleased as can be.

As the summer of 2022 comes to a close, we enter into a season of transitions. Young people return to school, the days get shorter, and some leaves begin to change color and blow about. For many, the start of this new season is a bit different than those in recent years. For students, this may be the first year that their semester begins as it did back in 2019, fully open and unmasked. For the humans at Tabby’s Place, we are awaiting with great anticipation for our certificate of occupancy for our Quinn’s Corner expansion. And, for Anka, the end of this summer brought the return of a beloved tradition:  the Tabby’s Place Volunteer Appreciation Picnic.

Why does Anka care so much about a picnic? Because he is the only Tabby’s Place resident that got to attend!

For three hours of a warm summer evening, Anka’s luxury accommodations were moved to the local community park. Both Anka and his outdoor enclosure were packed into a staff member’s car and driven a mile down the road. From his safe vantage point at the end of the picnic gazebo, Anka scooted through the grass, watched dogs walk by, sampled picnic treats, and cheered on our amazing volunteers as they participated in a Tabby’s Place trivia game and were recognized for 5, 10, or 15 years of service. Most importantly, he was showered with love and pets.

Hanging with the staff.

The morning after the picnic, Anka was in the very best of spirits.

Anka has been in good health this month and has been enjoying a new pastime—watching Frankie explore and get into trouble. Frankie recently moved to the Lobby from the Community Room where he was getting too little stimulation, leading to conflict with other cats. For Frankie’s first week in the Lobby, all was going very well and he was exploring and keeping to himself. Now that he knows the space, he’s beginning to pick on some of the other cats. This lands Frankie in a time-out and makes Anka chuckle quietly to himself. Frankie knows not to mess with Anka.

Anka thanks you for making his wonderful life at Tabby’s Place as sweet as the table of desserts at the picnic!
