I have some very sad news, FeLVie fans.

We’ve lost Checkers. He passed away in his sleep.

It’s a little consolation to know that his last day with us was very peaceful. Our Director of Development saw him sleeping in his suite’s solarium in the morning, then he was seen later snoozing on a soft bed in the suite itself. A donor couple stopped by to see our boy, and he was able to respond to their gentle attention.

We know that felines are masterful at hiding illness. Checkers probably had lymphoma for some time before we knew that anything was wrong, and his compromised immune system caused him to succumb to the disease very quickly.

We will miss our gentle boy very much, but we’re glad we were able to have him with us, even if it was for too brief a time.

Thank you for your generosity and devotion to dear Checkers, and to each one of our FeLV+ cats. They are fortunate to have you as their extended family, and to know that they are truly loved.
