Edamame

At this writing (7/1/12), we suspect that Edamame is just about a year old. She’s had an eventful life so far! Living on a farm and not spayed, she became pregnant when barely a teenager. As we understand matters, she gave birth to five kittens in a litterbox. Far from being a good parent, however, she only seemed confused by the presence of her kittens. Worse still, she had no milk to feed them.

Thanks to human intervention, her surviving babies were bottle-fed (they are The Bean Brothers, Garbanzo and Lentil, an affectionate and chaotic duo). Edamame and her little ones were brought to Tabby’s Place. After she’d recovered from the birth of the kittens, she was examined (she’s in good health) and spayed. After being in quarantine for a suitable length of time, she was placed into a suite.

Once in her suite, she showed a great affection for other cats and bonded almost immediately with brown tabby Beecher, who came to us all the way from Georgia. Edamame is still a timid girl, but she has demonstrated repeatedly that she is calmer in Beecher’s presence. Once you start to pet her, she becomes friendlier, but she’s still on the wary side. Because of this, she must go to a home without small children. It’s also a good idea for her to go to an environment with another cat that likes felines, as she’s very sociable with her own species. We’d like any potential adopter to seriously consider adopting Edamame and Beecher together, but this is not mandatory. I hope you get a chance to see this couple, as they really are very cute together.
