No name conjures cuddlier visions than “Teddy.” Typically a diminutive of Theodore—“divine gift” in Greek—or Edward— Old English for “wealthy protector”—the nickname also evokes the kindheartedness of the 26th President, who famously refused to shoot a captured bear on a hunting trip and inspired the creation of the iconic teddy bear. It’s a name that feels nostalgic, warm, and approachable.

Nevertheless, this tabbied Teddy feels neither warm nor approachable. At the moment, you’re unlikely to spot him lounging in the open, perched on a bed like a child’s beloved stuffed companion. More often, you’ll find him tucked in a corner like a lost cub that longs for his mama. Although Teddy is a sweet cat, he has struggled with the transition from a multi-cat family home to our sanctuary, which is filled with unfamiliar faces. But when he meets the right family, Teddy will surely emerge from his den of despair, blinking into the hopeful sunshine of a new start.

His soft brown fur, big shiny eyes, and stoic little face—reminiscent of a vintage Steiff bear—hint at the faithful friend Teddy longs to be. And while he may not be ready for snuggles just yet, he would happily claim a quiet spot on your couch or bed where he can observe and unwind.

Teddy gets along well with other cats and would be happy to share his forever home with other felines. He just needs a patient adopter who is willing to help him come out of his shell.
