Believe it or not, there is a connection between Oscar Mayer and the ancient city its trademark product is named for. The bubblegum pink deli meat is a derivative of mortadella, a similar pork product with origins in Bologna, Italy. What isn’t so clear is the connection between sandwich meat and a handsome gray tomcat named Bologna.
Do his AncestryDNA results show forefathers in Northern Italy? Is he a fan of cold cuts? Does he think that humans are hogwash, and would he blow raspberries and grumble, “humbug!” if he could? The third option is our best guess—although Bologna has his reasons for calling “baloney” on humanity. (“But don’t rule out the cold cuts!” he would like to add.)
As the former member of a large cat colony, Bologna hasn’t had much experience with people, and he’s not so sure about us. Two-legged creatures are still a bit new and scary, so Bologna feels safest hiding away in the tunnel leading from his suite to the solarium. Maybe he feels cozy, like a happy little sausage in its casing. Maybe he’s dreaming about cheese. Or maybe—just maybe—he’s pondering what it’s like to live in a forever home with one of these strange beings.
We do think that with time and patience, Bologna has the potential to warm up, although he may never be a lap cat. If you’re an understanding cat lover who can appreciate an independent buddy, Bologna just may cut the mustard as your kitty companion.
