FeLV+, FIV+

Magellan currently resides in a suite with his best friend and fellow explorer, Ponce de Leon. The two boys are thick as thieves and spend their days sunning and napping together. As two older fellows, they prefer to spend their days of retirement lounging in leisure rather than swashbuckling across the globe. Come for a visit and maybe they’ll find the map to your heart.

Magellan is one of two world explorers at our sanctuary who is double positive for FeLV+ and FIV+.  FeLV, or feline leukemia, is an immunosuppressive virus that can make a cat more susceptible to infections and cancer. The lifespan of cats with FeLV is variable, but cats with FeLV live happy lives and many have normal life spans. FeLV is not transmissible to humans or other species, but it can be transmissible to other cats. It is not recommended that a cat with FeLV cohabitates with FeLV negative cats, but they can cohabitat with other positive cats. FIV+ is a similar virus that also further suppresses the immune system, but it is generally not considered as severe as FeLV+.

Magellan is looking for a home as dignified as he is. Could that be with you? Consider filling out an online adoption application today!
