Update for Olive

A sparkly and jubilant July hello to you, my dear friend and sponsor!

I hope you, my beloved extended family member, are enjoying the hot and steamy start to the summer. Whew, let me tell you, it has been steamy around here! So much so that we have all stayed inside and enjoyed the newly completed HVAC system that cools Tabby’s Place to a very comfortable temperature. Play-yard time and stroller walks will resume, and solariums will reopen, when the weather is a bit more cooperative.

This past month, I was in overall happy spirits and good health.  I am pretty sure my personal staff is back to hiding some yucky medicine in my treats again.  They have my best interests at heart, because they realize expressing my bladder bothers me. Sadly, this is something all of us paraplegics have to endure.  I have always screamed and hollered at the top of my lungs during expression.  Because?  Well, just because I am a spirited girl, and I can!

How about a Hug?

To start last month off right, on June 4th, we recognized National Hug Your Cat Day.  And I will say, I think we wore out the staff and volunteers that day!  With 130+ of us felines here at Tabby’s Place, so many of us asking for hugs all day long, they seemed a bit tired at the end of that day!  I heard more than a couple of “Phew, are my arms tired today!!?!!” comments as they headed out the doors.  But our love was shared—and that is what it is all about!

I am going to admit, I sorta got in a little trouble this past month.  How do I know I was in trouble?  Well, when the Executive Director marches into the lobby and in his sternest voice says “Olive, we need to have a talk,” well, you just inherently know you are in trou-ble.  I am guessing someone around here has a big mouth and tattled on me.  Here is what happened.

It all started because of a Tabby’s Place blog post. Someone, in all their wisdom, thought it would be ok to put on social media that I am a “senior” and disclose my age.  To the whole world, no less!!!  And this person did not even ask me, the Royal Queen, if this would be ok.  Like seriously—what were they thinking??  So what if I am not as young as I used to be?   I am still just as gorgeous as ever, and there is a whole bunch of kitten trapped inside this beautiful body.

So, I figured I was going to show everyone how much of a kitten I really am, and decided to go investigating to find some things in the lobby that I could get into and play with.  First, I had some crinkly white tissue paper, which was kinda fun.  But then someone turned that into a bridal veil and tried to put it on me—so I was quickly over that (see my video below).  After all, I only wear tiaras, not veils.

Ut-oh — I might be in trouble for this

My next mission was much more successful.  I found a towel, a blankie, and lots and lots of brown paper.  And boy did I play my young little heart out!  In the process, well, I suppose I did make just a little bit of a mess through the lobby, right in front of the main doors where I greet our visitors.  I didn’t mean to—honest, I didn’t!

Granted, it looked like I was caught red-pawed, but I still looked around to see if anyone else could be my scapegoat to take the blame.  Willow and Berry were napping and behaving, for a change.  Ilya and Luna were in the far corner, quietly playing together, also for a change.   It seemed there was no one else to blame, so that left little old me, evidently all alone, front and center amidst the mess.

Fortunately for me, I know Jonathan is a bit of a sucker in falling for my cuteness.  I quickly scooted onto my cushion, batted my beautiful green eyes, and started making biscuits, assuring him such behavior would not happen ever again.   What I did not tell him is that, in the future, I simply will be more careful to make certain I do not get caught!

I will say, we had a bit of “sadness” here in the lobby this past month.  My dear friend and former crush, Colonel Peabody, was adopted!   After a victory lap in his stroller, he was off to enjoy a furever home with this really nice Dr. Veterinarian Lady.  It is not every day that advanced needs cats such as Colonel Peabody and me are adopted, so this is a big deal. Though sad for us, I was happy for the Colonel.

After the chaos — just catching a nap with my toy

But thanks to kind and wonderful sponsors like you, we do not mind because we truly have the best of everything here at Tabby’s Place—the best care, the best food, the best toys, and all of the best love.

Of course, that is not to say I would not be happy to be adopted too!  So, future adopter, whenever you are ready to make it official, I will be ecstatic and say yes to becoming your one-and-only devoted girl!   Just say the word and make my dreams come true!

Before I go, I want to wish you warm and sunny summer days ahead.  I am so very thankful to have you in my life and as my family.  My days are brighter because of the love, support, and generosity you bless me with, and it means everything to me.   Near or far, I feel your love and share mine back to you, each and every day!

Lots of love,
Queen Olive
