Update for Pepita

A favorite curl-up spot for Pepita is in the chair!

Dear Team Pepita,

How is May treating you? I hope that, wherever you live, you are enjoying a beautiful spring, full of sunshine in between the showers, fragrant blooms, songbirds, and all the brightness that comes with this season!

I heard through the grapevine earlier this month that Pepita had not been her super-happy and interactive self. So I had to see for myself just how our sweet girl was doing.

More treats? I know you have them in your pocket!

I made my way to her suite to find her curled up in her solarium, enjoying a beautiful spring day. During that time when she had not been herself, our veterinary team did blood and urine tests to look for a possible cause, but nothing showed up as out of the ordinary.

They also gave her subcutaneous fluids (fluid under the skin that is very helpful in making kitties feel better) for a few days, as she appeared to be dehydrated. She had been on antibiotics for a urinary tract infection, but that has cleared up, and her skin issues have improved, so she is no longer on medications.

I am delighted to report that she now seems back to her stellar self. Though she seemed a little thinner (she had lost a bit of weight), she was peppy and wanted pets and (of course) treats, and even a bit of lap time.

Our senior vet tech told me that Pepita was much improved and doing well. I breathed a sigh of relief at this news and was happy to spend time with her in her solarium, where she, Hazey, and Uni were hanging out. She decided near the end of my visit to plop down on her little hammock and observe the birds, breezes, and goings on outside her solarium, which faces Cherny’s Garden. Smart girl!

“I love to watch the birdies!” says Pepita

Tabby’s Place had a terrific Volunteer Open House at the end of April, with many visitors learning about volunteer opportunities. We love all of our volunteers, and they are so incredibly generous with their time. Some of their most outstanding work, beyond the daily cleaning, feeding, and laundry, takes the form of loving and socializing. Once-fearful cats turn into lovebugs over time—it is truly amazing to watch the progress and hear volunteers talk about how excited they are when a kitty starts to respond to their outreach.

Taking in the outside delights!

We are looking forward to a heartwarming Kitten Shower later this week on Sunday, May 18, which you can read about here. If you have the chance to stop by, Pepita would love to let you know just how much you mean to her.

Your love and generosity allow us to ensure Pepita’s well-being and provide her with the chance to commune with nature in her solarium, as well as enjoy all the love from staff and volunteers.

Please take a minute to see Pepita’s sweet personality in action in the video below (be sure to turn the volume up).  Her crazy loud purrs are just one more reason to love this girl (as if we needed one)!
