Greetings, Olive Lovers!
If you live on the East or West coasts of the US, you understand all too well that summer is in full swing. Our feisty girl has had an eventful month, so we’ll start with the medical news.
The last time you heard about Olive, she had picked up a UTI (urinary tract infection), but she recovered from that. A few weeks ago now, she was sedated for an oral exam and ended up having two teeth extracted. She recovered quickly from the extractions, as well.
We have discovered that Olive has an abdominal wall hernia on her left side. The treatment for this? Well, right now we are not treating it, but we’re also not taking this lightly, and we’re keeping a sharper eye than usual on her. Olive continues to challenge us in another way, too. Because she won’t take her medications for constipation regularly, she continues to struggle with the condition. She has also demonstrated increased anger and agitation when expressed. Because of this, we were anxious to do a full-blood work-up on her, but she was sedated beforehand to minimize stress. When the results of the blood tests returned, they looked remarkably good—with one exception. It turns out that Olive is anemic; we were not expecting that! Again, we are going to monitor her, and we will re-test her soon for confirmation.
In other news, Olive has been unusually busy lately, and this will be the case for some time to come. If you haven’t heard, Tabby’s Place has started construction on our soon-to-be expansion, Quinn’s Corner. The expansion will house feline leukemia positive (FeLV+) cats, but it will also be a home for fragile newborns, who require a great deal of care, and for adoptable kittens (feline leukemia can only be transmitted by direct contact with an infected cat, so there’s no danger for the little ones).
For more information, please visit our website to see the groundbreaking and our details about Quinn’s Corner. Since construction has begun, Olive has spent a great deal of time by our front door, evidently intent on supervising this important project. We can only hope that both the design and the construction workers will meet her high standards!
As usual, we deeply appreciate your continuing interest in and support of our little lobby greeter.
