Update for Pepita

Update for Pepita

Welcome to autumn, Pepita sponsors!

The leaves are starting to turn their vibrant autumn colors (finally) and beginning to drop, causing lots of delight for all the kitties in the solarium.  The crisp air has arrived and wonderful breezes are resulting in skittering leaves and the rustling sounds of the fall.  Pepita is delighting in all of this as she enjoys her favorite spots in the solarium.

However, one day recently when I arrived to visit on an early Saturday morning and to bring her a new paper bag in which to hide, I was surprised to see that Pepita was not in the solarium.  Instead, she was curled up comfortably in a big fluffy cat bed inside Suite A, way up on the uppermost portion of the ramp that leads to the tube to the solarium. Now, this spot is very difficult to reach for us short folks, even when on a ladder. Since she was sleeping so soundly, I decided not to disturb her and went out to the solarium, where I opened the paper bag and placed it on one of the climbing towers. Cindy quickly jumped inside—warming it up for Pepita, I presume.

But it did get me thinking about why Pepita was not in the solarium on a beautiful, albeit cool morning.  I attribute this to the fact that Pepita has experienced some hair thinning along her spine. Well, to be honest, she had lost most of her hair along her spine.  The vet team didn’t really come up with a cause and it didn’t seem to bother our sweet girl, and then magically it started to grow back on its own.  Everyone is keeping a close eye on the thinning hair situation but it seems as though it is resolving quite nicely without intervention.   I am speculating that she was a little chilly without that fur all the way grown back and decided to opt for a cozy bed inside on that particular morning.

As you know, Pepita is proudly part of the Aged to Purrfection program, where therapy cats such as Pepita go to senior homes and rehab centers to bring smiles to the folks there.  She recently went to a rehab center with two of the little kittens.  She loved the visit and was so worn out from making all those folks smile, that she fell asleep in the car on the way back to Tabby’s Place.  She loved all the attention, especially sitting on the beds of two of the residents there.  One of the volunteers who took her said it was so special seeing her interact with everyone, especially with the young man, and making incredible eye contact with him. She is one special kitty!

In other Tabby’s Place news, the Linda Fund for the medical needs of the cats, where donations were matched dollar for dollar by wonderful bene

factors, reached its goal without even having to extend the campaign!  This is wonderful news as the Linda Fund, along with your generous sponsorship, enables us to address any medical needs of the Tabby’s Place cats, including our darling Pepita.  Thankfully she has had a healthy month with the exception of the thinning hair.

Pepita is looking forward to all the fall visitors to Tabby’s Place. The various events for Halloween and Thanksgiving bring many who will see our beautiful princess and shower her with lots of love.  October’s event is Chip or Treat, where free microchipping is done for cats and dogs.  See  here for details.  We are hoping that if you live nearby you will be one of her very special visitors. Thank you again for all you do to keep Pepita healthy and happy at Tabby’s Place.

As Stanley Horowitz notes: “Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all.” Please enjoy the next few months of this fabulous mosaic.
