With apologies to old Walt, Disney World is simply not the happiest place on earth.
No.
That honor belongs to Ringoes, NJ — specifically, Adoption Room #2 at Tabby’s Place. Or, perhaps I should say the former Adoption Room #2. With your generous help, this once staid bungalow has become…the Kitten Room.
As you’ll recall, last month you helped Tabby’s Place to launch a TNR project at a local recycling facility. As providence would have it, the week we set about catching cats, an entire rock band’s worth of female felines decided to give birth.
Well, my dears, those newborns have grown, and so have their numbers.
The sweetest smidgens this side of Gertrude Hawk are now chirping, cuddling, and careening around all cattywompus in Adoption Room #2. That room’s residents — all under two pounds and over 500,000% adorable — currently number 12. But, there are more about to join them as soon as they clear quarantine.
Here’s our rising team roster, all saved with your help:
1. The Fastener Family: Mama Snap, babies Buckle (already on hold to be adopted), Velcro (ditto), Zipper (ditto) and Button
2. The Soda Squad: Mama Fanta, babies Cola, Birch, Sasparilla and Fresca
3. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Mama Mootz*, babies Gamora, Nebula, Groot and Starlord
But wait, there’s more! As soon as they finish their own quarantine period and become old enough to join the pride, these fellow feral-born litters will move on in:
4. The Disney Darlings: Mama Mrs. Potts, babies Lumiere, Mulan, Gaston, Rapunzel and Chip
5. The Brady Orphans: Greg & Marcia; Peter & Jan (pictured at left); Bobby & Cindy
Got all that?
Now, at this point, you may be thinking, shucks, Angela, that’s an awful lot of felinity to be charging through one room. And you’d be right…if these were cats. But they are kittens. And if we’ve learned one magical thing about kittens, it’s this: kittens love kittens.
It never ceases to amaze me. A group of kittens will be confidently ensconced in a room, when we decide to add another three or four or ten. Within five minutes, the original “owners” of the room have decided they not only like, but deeply adore, their new neighbors…and they are all sleeping in a pile of peace (don’t believe me? see above).
It’s enough to make you feel like you’re in the presence of the holy.
Amazing sponsors, know that you have had everything to do with these romping, thriving miracles. Every one of the kittens named and pictured in this update came to us in the most helpless possible state — days old, eyes closed, unable even to eat unassisted. Every one of them received ’round-the-clock care from their first days with us. Every one of them is thriving now, and surely bound for a loving forever home. Without you, they’d grow up hardscrabble at that recycling plant…or they wouldn’t grow up at all.
The miracle is you. Thank you from the depths of my kitten-besotted soul!
