February greetings, Kitten Fund friends!

Until recently, the Kitten Room was home to one lone teenager, Oy (pictured here). This sweet boy’s mother and siblings had all been adopted, but a stubborn case of tritrichinomas (an intestinal parasite) kept Oy out of most adopters’ consideration. The little guy finally ditched that tenacious bug this month (pending one last test to confirm), and now he’s due to be adopted with little three-footed LuEllen and sweet Margo. Happy endings certainly are worth waiting for, especially when they’re forever happy endings!

We also welcomed an intergalactic crop of little travelers this month. Tiny Carrie, Mark, Harrison, Kylo and Rey are our newest crop of kittens, all found as orphans (the first three via Animal Control, the last three through our TNR work at the nearby women’s prison). Mark has already been adopted by his foster mom, and Rey is spoken for as of this writing. Kylo’s also in his forever home…the Force (of cute) is strong in that one. Quite frankly, we can’t imagine the other passengers on this starship will last long, either, based on their absolute adorability!

Case in point: I stopped by the kitten room for a visit, and found LuEllen and Oy charming the stuffing out of a teenage volunteer, while another kitty named Sidewinder hung out in his crate. On the cat tree in the corner, Harrison, Carrie, and Kylo each had a level to themselves, which they were putting to good use by napping. Harrison was up top. I started petting him, and he instantly burst into that wonderfully rumbly kitten purr. Carrie woke up, wondering what her bro was so pleased with, and when I stroked her head, she joined in on the purring. Kylo, down at floor level, was the last to pick up the chorus, but it didn’t take him long to start purring, too. The cat tree was one delightful vertical column of purr.

It is not at all surprising to me that Kylo got scooped up before I could even come visit again…and Carrie and Harrison can’t be far behind him.

This “quiet” stretch of Kitten Season has still given us plenty of kittens to love, hasn’t it? And spring isn’t far away now; before we know it, we’ll have even more kittens to lavish with our affection. Thank you, as always, for supporting all of our littlest residents, helping them get the best start in life that we can give them!
