And then there were…25. (At least, I think that’s the last count, but it seems to change by the hour.) Kitten Season went from less-than-a-trickle to Niagara Falls this year. Three out of four of our nursing mothers (Mrs. Potts, Mootz and Fanta) and their kittens (Lumiere, Mulan, Gaston, Rapunzel and Chip; Gamora, Nebula, Groot and Starlord; and Cola, Birch, Sasparilla and Fresca — got that?) remain in foster care with staff and volunteers, while mama Snap and her babies (Velcro, Button, Buckle and Zipper) are here at Tabby’s Place. Have no fear, there will not be a quiz!
As the litters get a bit older and finish their quarantine period, they’ll all move into the sanctuary, and the wild rumpus will begin. We’ve also taken in a fifth litter, sans mother: the Brady Bunch (Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby and Cindy). With one tragic exception (we lost little Aurora, one of Mrs. Potts’ babies), this has been a delightfully healthy herd of kittens.
As for our older kittens, Chanel and Coco have been adopted (separately), and Ernestine has found her forever home as well. Zoey and Bertie continue to await forever families, Zoey in the Lounge, making friends with the world, and Bertie in the Community Room, still hissing if you get too close. Patient devotion will be Bertie’s companion until he finally trusts us, no matter how long that may be. Remember little Samantha from several Kitten Seasons ago, who struggled to warm up to us? She recently went home with her forever family. Bertie can have all the time he needs, thanks in no small part to your care.
As Kitten Season continues to pick up steam, we can’t thank you enough for supporting our little ones and their mamas. Your generosity is truly life-changing!
