Update for the Kitten Fund

Damien & Ripley

Dear Kitten Lovers,

Through the summer heat, drought, and the ongoing disruptions of attempting to run daily operations on an active construction site, the progress of Tabby’s Place’s new addition has continued and becomes more of a reality every day. Much in the vein of the cows’ need to get milked every morning, the kittens keep coming, demanding to be loved and their indomitable spirits pulling at everyone’s heartstrings.

Carrie & Damien

One of the greatest examples of this lives in the inquisitive spirit of our six-month-old tuxedo trio from Lebanon. Damien and Ripley are both blind and Carrie has one good eye. They are currently at Tabby’s Place awaiting eye surgery. Apparently, they were never informed that blindness could be a handicap because their madcap antics are at full throttle all the time. They are playful and confident and love to explore their space with each other. It is uncanny the way they seem to sense your presence, even through the glass, and come forward to greet you in a way that would move even the most stoic among us. Somehow, they have made it work with one functioning eye and a hefty dose of industrial strength cuteness.

On the medical front, the litter of five Rock-n-Roll kittens—Sebastian, Lita, Izzy, Blondie, and Joan—all experienced some neurological issues this month. They remain too small for full diagnosis but are being treated for toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection that can cause lethargy and lack of appetite. The good news is that they are slowly improving and gaining strength and weight. Back on the ranch, the three cowboy kittens finally cleared ringworm and are looking forward to finding their forever home. Sadly, Mama Ponderosa and her five western kittens have not had the same luck and are still in ringworm quarantine.

Carrie

On the ever-popular neutering and spaying front, Wynken, Blynken, and sister Nod underwent the procedure and the latter two have had the good fortune to find their forever home, leaving little Wynken quite beside himself. The staff has been making a diligent effort to curtail abandonment issues by giving him extra love and attention and the silver lining to this story is that he will be going home with kitten Pattycake. Two of the Beatles kittens (John and Ringo) were also neutered and adopted together. Peace and love to them in their new home.

Let’s end with a note on our newest arrivals, named after 90’s children’s TV shows, Zaboomafoo, Whimzie, and Loonette. After a week or so in our holding area, they have now gone to a foster home for some more intensive socialization. Hopefully, they will learn quickly and will be ready for their forever home soon.

An update would not be complete without a reminder that we continue to be interested in recruiting volunteers, especially as we look towards the expansion of Tabby’s Place with the opening of Quinn’s Corner. If you know of any interested parties, they can open this link on the website and fill out an application.

Please accept our continuous and heartfelt gratitude for all that you do to support the efforts to fulfill the mission of Tabby’s Place. We are now open for visitors between 1 and 4 and we would love to see you!

Thank You!
