Hello, Friends of Taylor Ham!
I am happy to report that Taylor Ham is experiencing improvement when it comes to the inflammation of his mouth and gums. He revisited the specialist this month, and we have been able to wean him off of his steroid. This is a gradual process.
In cats, steroids sometimes have the side effect of causing diabetes. This is precisely what happened with our sweet Taylor Ham. Since steroids can change the way a cat absorbs insulin, we will monitor him very carefully as we lower his dose. Our greatest hope is that Taylor may go into remission from his diabetes. All along the way, he is in the best of hands, and his usual high spirits.
Taylor Ham’s spirit is SO good that he has been even more investigative of the staff’s meals when lunchtime comes around!
As everyone gathers to eat, Taylor inspects the table, going person-to-person in his search for the tastiest offering. There’s one problem (as he sees it): no one is offering!
So now, Taylor Ham gets banished to “potty jail,” as the staff lovingly places him in the lounge bathroom so they can eat uninterrupted. When released, Taylor remains as cheerful and companionable as ever, holding not a grudge against those who love him so!
Having had the pleasure of visiting Taylor more often as I cover for his regular correspondent, Mary (who will return to you next month), I find his character quite endearing and his determination charming.
As you know, Taylor is a member of the Aged to Purrfection Program, and his visits to the local nursing homes are well-received by residents. After all, what’s not to love about a feline who shows up dressed for the day in a black fur tux, white collar, and kid gloves? Taylor always looks his best and gives all he has to those in need of his company.
Through this temporary assignment, I have gotten to know this delightful little soul better. I look forward to continuing to visit with him regularly.
Thank you for your most generous donations that help him to thrive. He is one of those cats that just adores his humans, including you.
I think we can all agree that we love him right back!
Your guest correspondent,
Kim
