Dear Team Steven,
The past month has been very exciting for Steven! Taking his star turn as a featured cat in our “Remember the Seniors” fund drive (which you can view here), Steven is quite proud to represent all the older cats residing or waiting for adoption at Tabby’s Place.
Just look at his photos in this recent blog post, and you can tell he’s pleased as punch to take his turn in the spotlight.
Moments like these are somewhat few and far between for our elder statescat, as it’s usually our newborns and kittens that steal the show. We know it’s a bit hard to tell with his ginger coat but, inside, Steven is simply glowing with pride! And why not, when he takes such great glamour shots?
Next thing you know, he’ll have me writing his online dating bio for the Golden Bachelor!
Our Steven is much more modest than that. Our resident philosopher is certainly the one cat we can count on to take things in stride. Unfortunately, not all the measured steps he takes are part of his quietly thoughtful approach to life.
At fifteen, Steven is getting older and seems increasingly arthritic. We are closely monitoring his gait and level of discomfort to bring him maximum relief. One of Steven’s medications to support his GI health was discontinued this month, as his stools have improved.
Steven also had an echocardiogram this month. His heart looks stable with a small amount of thickening from his last evaluation. He will be rechecked in 6 to 8 months.
Steven had one rough morning when he vomited multiple times. It seemed that something just didn’t agree with him. Was he secretly sneaking into a slyly hidden caviar stash? Did he trade with another cat who can comfortably digest a richer diet? Or was it simply a side effect of the super-secret tonic we’re convinced he’s somehow formulated to keep him so youthful and vibrant?
No matter! Steven was eating heartily again in the late afternoon and back to his happy, healthy self.
Three cheers for our wonder cat!
As always, Steven joins me in sending his best wishes to you for May and the coming month of June. Steven considers all of you a part of his big Tabby’s Place family, so Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are exceptionally meaningful to him. Without your love and support, our big bundle of boy cat would not have the wonderful life he has, full of golden moments and sweet, sweet love. Even in his senior moments, he never forgets your generosity!
Your correspondent,
Tina
