Dear Team Steven,
From time to time, like Steven, I take a few moments to ponder my random thoughts. You just never know when a single word will ignite your curiosity and become a vehicle for quiet contemplation. Taking a page from Steven’s book, I decided it was time to roll a few ideas around in my head. Suddenly, it occurred to me that I did not know anything about the meaning of Steven’s name, and it was high time I did!
In many spiritual traditions, names hold powerful symbolism and meaning. This is particularly true in the case of our delightful feline friend. Steven, or Stephanus in Latin or Stephanos in Greek, signifies the ability to lead, inspire, and radiate love and kindness. The name is associated with humility, honesty, and an unwavering sense of purpose. In Hebrew, the name also means full of wisdom, faith, and the power of prayer.
I was excited to share with Steven what I had discovered. Whoever gave him his moniker really hit the nail on the head! Of course, as I proudly blurted out my findings, Steven took it all in stride. Did he already know what I was telling him, or did his name suit him so perfectly that, in my excitement, I appeared to be a bit of a bozo? No matter – he seemed secretly pleased. I must admit I was a bit awe-inspired to get such incredible confirmation of the magnificent nature of his true being at this very spiritual time of year.
Now that the weather is cold, Steven is spending much more time inside. He really likes the tower made of PVC piping. It is a great spot for prayer and meditation, making it the perfect observation tower. Steven will also clamor to the top, meowing for attention when staff does meds in the room. No one doubts that he is truly in charge and the complete master of his domain.
Our resident wise man has been in good health and spirits this month. One staff member reported that Steven has been a bit more active, while another was pleased to see him using the litterbox. (We all know about his IE (inappropriate elimination) history, but “Shhhhh!” Incontinence happens to the best of us as we age, and I am all for preserving Steven’s dignity … as well as my own!)
Throughout this special season of love and giving Steven and I wish you peace, joy, and understanding. The staff and volunteers join us in acknowledging and gratefully appreciating all you do for him and the rest of the community of Tabby’s Place.
Happy holidays, everyone!

Tina
