Update for Rose

Update for Rose

Hi, y’all!

I think, for the very first time, this li’l black and white Southern cat is speechless! Lordy, where do I start? The past few weeks have been like going to the county fair and riding the big Ferris Wheel, and getting stuck at the tippy, tippy top!

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love, concern and prayers. I am so blessed to have you as a sponsor. I cannot thank you enough for being there for me through the good and bad times. I am also grateful to Angela, the Tabby’s Place Development Director, and to my correspondent Ilene, for keeping y’all updated on my ever-changing health developments.

I consider myself a very happy and healthy young lady. Aside from an occasional urinary tract infection, I have not been seriously ill in recent years. I believe the worst experience was as a kitten, when I was hit by a car. This accident left me incontinent, with a broken leg and broken tail. This accident did not stop me, and what is going on now will not stop me. I am a fighter, and I do declare that I am not ready to give up this fight.

As you can imagine, it is really scary to be sick and not understand what is wrong. I did not need to see test results; I could see the worried faces of the staff and volunteers.

Tabby’s Place has seen many cat miracles over the years. I believe in miracles. I view life as a bowl of my delicious dry kibbles. The bowl is always at least half full!

You are my sponsor; I consider you family; and so of course I want to share my latest health developments. As you were told, I am being treated for vestibular disease. This inner ear infection penetrated my brain. There is also a lesion that showed up on my last MRI on my spine. I have an appointment next week with my veterinary neurologist, who will meet with our Senior Vet Tech to formulate my ongoing treatment plan.

Yes, I am scared, but I am comforted having you as my sponsor, always by my side. Right now I have a slight head tilt, which everyone says makes me look even cuter. My hind legs are getting stronger, and my gait is less wobbly. I am even able to jump in and out of my crate in the hospital, what a huge step!

Now for more happy talk! My appetite is back, and I am on unrestricted food. I have also “found my voice!” I was never a meower, but now I meow to get someone’s attention, I meow at people passing the hospital, I even meow in hopes I can follow a staff member into the hall.

My correspondent visits me in the afternoons and throws me a “Rose Picnic.” I never could have imagined having so much fun in a hospital. A giant blanket is spread out for me, along with a scratching post, towels, food dish (full of my new favorite food), a water bowl, treats, and lots of toys! Staff and volunteers stop by the picnic to say hi. As a very modest li’l cat, I am flattered by all this kindness.

Now, if the Rose Picnic was not the icing on the cake, how about being allowed time in THE SOLARIUM?!

The temperatures are still very warm in New Jersey, with some official heatwaves along the way. The vet staff does not want me to get too warm, so I am allowed short periods of time in the solarium. I am over-the-moon happy for every second in the solarium. I am convinced this is the best medicine for me!

Today I visited with my roommates Steve and Pepita, and I was so happy. I sat on the lower area and let the air blow on my face. I shut my eyes and felt like a little kitten again!

I miss my friends in Suite A. We have a new roommate named Tiana, and I want to be there to make her feel welcome. My friends at the nursing home I visit in the “Aged to Purrfection” program have been asking about me, and I hope to see them soon. A volunteer took me out in the stroller today, and I felt like the luckiest cat in the world!

The past few weeks have taught me such an important life lesson. Be sure to tell those you love (human and fur-baby) every day that you love them. We never know how many days we have on this beautiful Earth, so live every day with passion and happiness.

Thank you for being my sponsor! Wishing you an end of the summer filled with smiles. Until next month, sending you whisker kisses!
