Update for Pepita

Happy Thanksgiving to Pepita Fans,

An excellent hiding place—plus, toasty warm!

Turkey Day is right around the corner, and Pepita wants you to know that Thanksgiving with the Cats is happening here at Tabby’s Place from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 23rd!  We would love to see you and have you partake in the festivities. You can find the details here. It is usually one of our most popular events of the year!

Though I include fuzzy socks, spell check, and good hair days as things to be thankful for, Pepita’s list is a bit different, she tells me:

  1. YOU! Of course, you are #1 on her list of what she’s thankful for. Without you, she could not live the happy life she does at Tabby’s Place.
  2. Her solarium—but of course you already knew that!  Included are crinkly leaves that skitter across the sidewalk outside the solarium, birds and butterflies, and all the ‘out back’ activities happening at Tabby’s Place that can be seen from the solarium.
  3. The staff and volunteers who care for her each and every day. This includes the amazing vet team who keeps her healthy, the sanctuary associates who express her bladder, give her meds, and keep track of what is happening with her each day, and the numerous volunteers who keep her suite and solarium sparkling clean, spend time with her. and provide love and treats!
  4. Heated pads and big fluffy blankets, soft beds, and warm laps, especially this time of year.
  5. Toys and treats, and treats and toys (no, that is not a typo–she is doubly appreciative of these things).
  6. Her fellow suitemates, for company — albeit some more than others!
  7. A variety of yummy wet food served ON TIME.

The list could go on and on, of course, with special call-outs for specific volunteers and staff members (our kitties form bonds with their favorites). All these things are on the list because of your loving support of Pepita and the mission of Tabby’s Place. You are truly a treasure to us all.

If you visit me, you can see my amazing claws up close (of course I won’t use them on you!). But aren’t they cool?

Pepita is still enjoying the solarium, even as the weather turns colder. When I visited with her recently, I went straight to the solarium, expecting to find her there. I looked about but did not see her, so I figured she must be in the inside suite, and went searching there. No Pepita!

Hmmm…  I returned to the solarium and looked more closely at a big blanket on the bench, lifted the cover, and out popped Pepita. That girl knows how to stay warm! Even after she popped out and we had some expected treat time, of course, she then moved over to the place where the heated pads were and struck a cute pose there.

I’m no dummy—there’s heat underneath this blanket!

Pepita’s health has been generally good, except for those pesky urinary tract infections that plague her often.  She was started on an antibiotic for one this month and we discovered that the one she started did not agree with her GI system. The vet team opted to give her longer-acting injectable antibiotics, and her system responded happily to the change.

Another favorite activity of our sweet girl is making muffins. A fellow volunteer captured video of her in action—click here. She is totally focused! If you want to know more about why cats knead, click here.

As we approach winter here in Ringoes, NJ, all of us at Tabby’s Place wish you a love-filled Thanksgiving. Please know what a difference you are making for Pepita and the work of Tabby’s Place.

Sheila
